I'm looking for some suggestions on a new build. I have most of the parts already, but need some advice on the mobo and OS. Output must be HDMI (to Onkyo 706 receiver then to 720p LCD) from mobo.

Current build:
Intel T2700 (Yonah, mobile chip)
250gb HDD for OS
500gb HDD for recordings
ABIT mobo w/ integrated Intel 945 graphics
Windows XP
Beyond TV
hauppage 2250 recording card
hauppage 150 recording card

New build:
Intel i650
Intel 80 gb SSD
recycled Antec 2400 case and PS
4 GB DDR3 1600 ram
hauppage 2250 recording card
hauppage 150 recording card
OS???
Mobo???

Is windows 7 WMC good enough to ditch Beyond TV (WAF is high with BTV)? My XP system is super stable, but windows 7 should be relatively stable now that its been out for a while.

I'm looking at the intel 55 series chipset mainly because it aligns well with the Clarkdale chip (which I already own), but am open to any suggestions.

Win7 is Microsoft's most solid OS in a long time, possibly ever. I have few, if any, complaints. Certainly it spanks Vista, and the media center is very good right out of the box.

Either an H55 or H57 board will do what you want it to. The differences between these chipsets are not major and have nothing to do with playback.

I do not speak officially in any sense for
Intel Corp., Technology Manufacturing Group
but I do work there.

I am building my first HTPC and have spent a LOT of time looking into everything. I ended up going with Windows 7 (I have been using it for almost two years now because I was beta testing it.) and an Asus H55 motherboard.

anyone have a specific mobo recommendation? I'm limited to uATX form factor. I've always had good luck with ASUS, but work for intel and would like to support their hardware.

Also, is it worth considering USB 3.0? I know its still early on, but it may be worth it to future-proof.
