The transition will happen soon. The 4330 graphics card has already been removed from the Dell website, probably to wind down their stock of this OEM only part.

For now though we can only enjoy our Zino 400's and speculate on the 410.

Hmmm...the optical out will not bitstream HD codecs, correct? How then does it support 7.1 channel audio?

I'm interested in one of these too. It would save me the sanity of trying to build something almost as small, though I've heard the current ones do overheat anyway. Also, given Dell's reputation these days (big hairy lawsuit, faulty motherboards) - it's making me have second thoughts.

I'm sure they're going to charge too much for it... Hell, the original top of the line model was $800 at least, and you know those parts were not worth that much.

Maybe the scandal will make them reduce the prices!

I wonder if bluray will be an option... combined with the discrete 5450, this may give the ASrock systems a run for their money.

Need a date and prices to put this on my shortlist though...

I might be leaning towards this box for a new HTPC project. Any expectation of when it'll drop?

I hope this comes out in Canada not long after USA. But I also hope there might be other offers from PC mfgrs. HTPC choices are too little out there w/o going custom built.

Blu-Ray was an option with the 400 so I see no reason why they wouldn't offer it with the 410. I've got a 400 that my son uses in his bedroom on a 40" Samsung LCD. He doesn't need 5.1, let alone 7.1 or HD audio, but uses audio via HDMI to feed his monitor speakers. He mainly uses it for streaming Blu-Rays and DVDs from my unRAID server, which it does quite admirably.

I got the 4330 GPU and 6850e CPU upgrades when I bought it and it turned out to be a wise decision. Most of the complaints I've ever read about the Zino could be traced back to people cutting corners and getting the less expensive GPU and CPU options.

As a satellite HTPC the Zino HD is a great little performer. I'd hesitate to use it for a primary HTPC, mainly because it can't bitstream HD audio. If HD audio isn't a dealbreaker then it makes a great small form factor HTPC.

Too bad the 4330 video card has not been up on Dell's website for over 2 weeks now. A Dell representative informed me that they are just out of stock.

I am holding off on ordering till the 4330 is back as a Zino option.

I was thinking about when this thing might be coming out... Last year (8/12/09) the specs were leaked, then it wasn't released until 10/24... hopefully it comes out a bit sooner this year, haha.

Stay tuned, I have been told to expect a package on my desk in the coming days...could it be the 410 for me to play with, we'll see.

I will of course blog on whatever it is that shows up on my desk. LOL

I would be curious of the price with an AMD Quad Core. It looks like the price wold be north of $600 on the Dell site for a Primium or Advanced configuration.

5 weeks ago I got an HP s5560f SlimLine for $648 with the following:

# Small PC packed with performance and entertainment
# Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
# AMD Phenom II 830 Quad-Core processor (2.8GHz)***
# 6GB PC3 10600 DDR3 SDRAM
# 512MB ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card
# 1TB hard drive§
# Blu-ray player and SuperMulti DVD burner with LightScribe
# TV tuner with remote
# Wireless keyboard and mouse
# Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n
# 6-in-1 digital media card reader on front panel

And it runs very cool, low power consumption, no incompatibility issues, has NetFlix, Hulu, etc all good to go on it. The 1TB HDD and ATI HD5450 with 6GB sold me, not to mention the AMD Quad Core.
Sorry, I had to interject this here since some mentioned they were looking at HTPC.

I am interested in the zino 410 but that HP unit looks sweat. Do you have an HDMI out?

I checked your link. The price has gone up. I can't find one for 648. I wonder if HP has a refurbish store like Dell.

Yes there is an "outlet" tab near the top of the HP website. You may also be able to get Bing or Fatwallet cash back in some instances too. As I write I think the lowest price I see is $689 at JR, but check around.

You can check prices for this and more electronic toys here:

It would appear so. I'm just running it wireless G for now and video streams just fine on Hulu and Netflix for the most part.

the HP is a nice box but size-wise no where near as small as the Zino - which I can put darn near anywhere without it getting in the way or taking up any real space. Right on top of my Receiver is perfect... something I cannot do with the HP.

Size wise is subjective. The HP being vertically oriented has a pretty small footprint that happens to fit behind my 46" Mitsubishi LCD and is not even seen. For some folks it works for others it won't.

The other thing is, after pricing a Dell Zino out with close (still doesn't have the quad processor) to the specs the HP s5560f has, the price is about the same and still missing the remote that does it all. The HP also has the ATI HD5450 graphics card standard and it's an upgrade ( if even available) for the Zino. Also, the HP can take 16GB of RAM vs 8 GB for the Zino. I'm just sayin'.... The Zino is ok. But it's like a base model Ford or Chevrolet. Once you start optioning it up to match the HP, well, the HP is a better value. If you buy a stripped or moderately optioned Zino, it's a good buy.

Here is the US order page for the Zino 410: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-zino-hd-410/fs

There is not a whole lot of customization available for the various 4 models. Blue Ray and IR plus optional media remote is only available on 1 model. As far as I can tell you can not add the blue-ray drive and/or IR + media remote to any of the other 3 models.

Video card can not be upgraded or downgraded on the 4 models. You get 1 choice only per model. Note: if you want to have any chance of HD Audio pass-thru, you must have the ATI HD5450 Mobility Radeon.

Currently, only 3 CPU options are available: AMD Athlon II V140 , AMD Athlon II X2 P340 and AMD Phenom II X4 P940 .

These are not cheap boxes, you are paying a premium for the small form factor.

Hopefully with fewer configurations available the quality control will see a big improvement.

Is the IR built into the Zino, or is the receiver an external USB device that only comes packaged with the Dell RC260 Media Remote?

Also, is it possible to place ANY low-profile discrete card in the system? If so, it might be worth it to buy the cheapest Zino and then upgrade it yourself once the 3D-capable cards become more readily available for reasonable prices.

It's certainly a lot cheaper than the new ASrock 3D Vision...

Yup.. not cheap at all :|

If I were to be spending this much money, I would rather go and get the ASRock Vision 3D which seems to be much more future proof.. (3D support, HDMI 1.4a etc.).

That said, the Phenom II quad core does look tempting. I can't wait to benchmark that config against the Vision 3D. Maybe, this one might be better in terms of performance benchmarks!
