Thanks Tulli! I suspected it was an EDID issue but I didn't have the time to look hard into it.

Yup, me too. That's where I was going with the "you gotta get bitstreaming working with the receiver first" recommendation. If the EDID info is not correct, the source will not bitstream.

Tulli is the EDID guru!

I'm really glad that my experiences helped other people with similar issues. Thank you very much everyone, you guys are simply amazing. I find it incredible how the community can figure out solutions to problems that manufacturers (ATI in this case) either can't or are unwilling to solve.

I got burned by EDID last time I tried an ATI 4550 card (and returned it) and having just bought another one 5570 (yeah I didn't learn my lesson last time) It's nice to know that ATI still can't parse EDID. I can't wait to have these problems all over again.

EDID has burned me several times, sometimes without a PC being in the mix...

Like I mentioned earlier, my Oppo would not bitstream to my Onkyo on 2 different occasions due to EDID problems:

1. When I had the setting "TV audio" set to "on" in the Onkyo.
2. When I had an HDMI splitter in my system.

In both cases EDID was parsed incorrectly, causing the Oppo to output PCM even though it was set to bitstream.

I've only had EDID problems with an ATI card in my system. Non PC devices work fine and the nVidia 9300 IGP currently in use in my HTPC works fine as well, but the ATI 4550 was a no go and since I've used XP to date an EDID override was out of the question. Now I plan to go Win 7 with the 5570, so hopefully I can get it all working one way or another.

To be fair on this, ATI (AMD now) did fix the majority of known EDID issues with 10.4. Since then, EDID overrides have not been needed for the majority of AVRs. I recommend posting a trouble ticket with them and explaining that the EDID for your AVR model (list the model) was not parsed correctly and that an EDID override was necessary. It's unlikely that they will read this thread.

From reading all the thread with EDID problem I have come to the conclusion that it all relates to Onkyo and Denon receivers mostly. My last received was an Onkyo and I had the same issue but since I've switched to Pioneer, I've never a problem with eithe ATI 4850 or 5750.

I never had an issue with my Yamaha 863 either. (Well, only when I tried to connect it to an ASUS HDAV. Never had an issue with my ATI 5xxx)

FWIW, I have two Pioneer Elites (84TXSi & SC-05) and neither one worked with the 4550 I tried a some time ago under XP. We'll see if the 5570 I bought works any better under Windows 7 with them.

Ok guys, I can confirm that there is a problem with the ATI drivers parsing of EDIDs of 5.1 only AVRs.

In sum, if a 8-LPCM SAD is lacking in the EDID audio block then bitstreaming is broken. I tested over my DENON by replacing the 8-LPCM SAD with a 6-LPCM SAD and could not bitstream (and third option on PDVD was not available of course). So it's not an Onkyo issue at all and will affect all 5.1 AVRs (or AVRs with a faulty EDID where an 8-LPCM SAD is missing).

I attach the "corrected' EDIDs for sputnik767 and MakaKam's respective setup so they can be tried out.

I've just tested it and I can confirm that it's fully efficient. Thanks again Tulli

Thank you. I'll most likely try it out tomorrow and report back. I left for class at 7:30 am today, and I'm still at school now, at almost 11:30 pm.

Sure. I need the full 256-byte EDIDs of the LG and Onkyo. Follow instructions from link in my sig. to do the capture.

Hey Tulli!, I wrote you on the other topic about the EDID issue. I kept constantly reading in case my problem finds a solution and it seems that you did.
As it happens, the edid you provided me didn't work and reading this topic I have the symptoms you describe: Onkyo AVR 5.1 only!
I'm leaving you the info in case you can fix it, if you can't, would you tell me how to? If there's still no solution, don't worry, I know you have tried with each and every one of us.
Thank you very much!

Don't forget to report the issue to AMD (and how it was fixed).

You are the greatest Tulli!!!, ATI should hire you or give you a check for solving their errors. Let me tell you that I couldn't wait and I gave the mod you provided for other person a shot (LG tv+onkyo 308) and it worked!! The thing is that I'm only outputting audio to the receiver through the ATI 5450 and the video is output directly from the ATI 4200 to the tv, it was awesome to finally see those DolbyHD and DTS-MA lit up on the avr's panel.
Now that you are giving me my mod, I'll try it with the TV so I can pass video through the AVR. The mod still requires the resolution to be 1080p? Or with this new fix I can use 1920x1200?

Thanks so much again, and I'll keep you informed about how it turned out.

P.S: the moment the first edid didn't work (1&1/2 month ago) I warned ATI about my problem (homework done).

Yes, resolution should be HDTV proper (1080p/i, 720p) to bitstream HD audio over your AVR.

Now, the Samsung 260HD will sync to 1080p over its HDMI port so it could work with the override. Try it and let me know. Actually you could have the Samsung DVI port connected directly to the ATI-DVI and the Samsung HDMI port to the AVR->ATI HDMI (switching input on the TV). These would be 2 different monitors of course and only the HDMI monitor driver would need an EDID override.

I'm not sure but maybe the Samsung sends a different EDID over the HDMI port where 1080p is the native resolution. The EDID you posted has 1920x1200 as native. If the override doesn't work capture the EDID again but over the HDMI link and post it and I'll make the required override.

Hello Tulli, tried the mod you gave me and it works with my current setup (ATI5450 to avr and ATI 4200 to Samsung Monitor). But in order for it to bitstream, I had to put the ATI 5450 in 1080p resolution. It doesn't affect me since I'm not using that card to monitor and I can still use ati4200 at 1900x1200.
But, if I remember correctly, I think when I tried the mod "onkyo tx-sr308 > LG PS8000 50" I was using 1900x1200 res. and it was properly bitstreaming. I'd have to check that out again to confirm it.
I still have many setups to test yet, I'll keep you informed.

Hello guys,

First of all I'm new on this forum. It's absolutely amazing to see how people like to help each other. Faith in humanity restored.

However I'm having very similar problem thank the OP. I have AMD HD6950 video card to Onkyo HT-R380 and from the AVR to KDL-46HX755. I'm using MPC-HC and I used this guide to setup it: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2011/06/30/guide-setting-up-lav-filters-mpc-hc-for-all-your-splitter-and-audio-needs/

My audio source is definitely DTS HD MASTER, but my AVR shows only DTS. Video is working fine. Only problem is that I can't see that shiny "DTS HD MA" text on my AVR.

I need help. I've been searching the answer this whole day.

Thank you in advance!
