So this would work just identical to the current HD PVR but without the need for the separate box (just install the card into a PC)?

Cheers,
Damian

Identical in purpose, hopefully improved like the PVR 250 was vs the PVR-PCI.

See what an anamorphoscopic lens can do,

Sweet, just dusted off my HD PVR this weekend and would definitely prefer an approach that doesn't require an extra box

Cheers,
Damian

It does add an HDMI input (although the feed must be unencrypted) HDCP stripper anyone?

No mention of Media Center compatibility but it sure would be nice.

I believe the HD PVR supports WMC, but there are other great solutions that I'm sure will support it anyway.

Hmm i was about to get a 1212 hd-pvr usb device, but if there is a low profile colossus due out any time soon, this would be better to wait for i guess, so long as it isnt a long wait.

At least it shouldn't suffer the lockups the 1212 was notorious for...

What do you suppose the power consumption will be?

More importantly, would my Antec-ISK300 with 150W PSU be able to handle it in addition to my Intel i3-530, 2x1GB DDR3 RAM, slim DVD drive, Intel V series SSD?

I sent an email to their tech support.. the one person said he did not believe it was going to be low profile, which is a major disappointment.. he also said it would probably be released January 2011.

is it known yet whether multiple devices can be used in one system?

i'd read that the current hd-pvr only allows for one device to be connected to the computer.

will the new card allow for a multi-tuner setup?

You can have multiple HD PVRs in one PC, I think there's someone on the SageTV forums with at least 4 in their system.

See what an anamorphoscopic lens can do,

oh, ok. well that's great.

i asked because on TGB forums, it has been said you can only have one HD-PVR per WMC machine.

If so, that's probably a WMC limitation, probably due to only one Hauppauge IR blaster working per system. With SageTV if you want to use more than one, you need something like a USB UIRT for IR control.

That looks really nice. I've been having good luck with my 1212, but I'm really, really interested in replacing it. This looks like it will do the trick... now, do I have a PCI-e slot??? Hmmm...

That is likely with reference to the native Hauppauge HD PVR Windows 7 Media Center initiative directly from Hauppauge. This is a free beta solution though. The DVBLink for Hauppauge HD PVR solution has multiple Hauppauge HD PVR unit support if I recall correctly. Its not a free solution though. The way I understand it, over at the DVBLink forums, they intend to support the new Hauppauge Colossus HD PVR and will begin development as soon as they get sample hardware.

I have had good luck with my 2x Hauppauge HD PVR units. However, if the Colossus comes with better out of the box Windows 7 Media Center support for free I could see buying one or two. Especially so if the price remains a reasonable ~$159.99.

Colossus, ordered mine today! Will SAGE 7 be able to view recorded HD channel as a saved TV channel like any other recorded OTA TV show?

Cool they are taking pre-orders with a discount. I hope it last for awhile. I need a new TV/Monitor so I don't know if I'll be able to order this without solving that issue first.

But I'm dying to finally use a D*TV HD box and now that IR issues are gone with the new designed boxes, I can keep using my emitters and just install this car in place of my 650HD which I might keep installed and put this in the x1 slot above the video card.

But then I'll have to get a mITX case for the Fusion boards or wait for Llano.

I pre-ordered a Hauppauge Colossus too. According to Hauppauge Colossus should start shipping February 15 th although I wouldn't be too surprised if the ship date gets pushed back.

Based on my experience as an early Hauppauge HD PVR adopter I expect some growing pains. If I recall correctly there was rather plain product packaging, estimated ship dates kept getting pushed back, an early revision change and difficulty keeping up with demand for even the pre-orders,

I'm not complaining I'm just saying. Ultimately I was so impressed with the Hauppauge HD PVR USB version that I bought a second one. They have both been very reliable. No sync issues, no lockups or instabilities, no forced power cycling or forced reboots,..nothing,.

Based on my experience I'm trying to be optimistic. I bought the first hardware-encoding SD tuner card, the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-PCI, and like the HD PVR it had some issues. I later replaced it with Hauppauge's second generation, the WinTV PVR250, which was about as perfect as anything is.

So here's to hoping history repeats itself and Happauge's second generation HD "tuner" is as good as their second generation SD tuner.

See what an anamorphoscopic lens can do,

I preordered the Colossus to replace the current HD PVR. The main reason is I just want to have one less box sitting around, taking up an outlet. I only use the HDPVR sporadically to pull recorded content off my cable box, so having stability (i.e. perfect integration with a front end) is not important to me.

Cheers,
Damian
