Yeah, I really wanted to do a super small case, but the shelf I'm putting it on has tons of space, so I realized I don't need to go super small. The mini itx case I'm going to use will be good. About the same size as an Xbox. No problem.

Unfortunately the one that caught my eye, "BX1", isn't in the USA store

This is one I'd like to see Habey import from where the EMC-800 and EMC-600 come from:

http://www.minicase.net/product_E-Q8.html

It's the updated version of the EMC-600. It's definitely taller and I like the look quite a bit better.

The one pictured above is $122 with shipping to get to the US. Most of that is the shipping cost.

HAHA...They really nailed it.

If I buy it and I don't feel powerful mental sense...then I will be severely upset!

That is absurd.

I really like my current Habey 600, regardless of the poor ventillation (although my temps are not awful like others have reported) but some small improvements in the design and that case is the perfect price/look/functionality package out there.

The E-Q8 seems to make some small improvements (like more height) which is why I was so psyched to see it. There also seems to be new variations on the Q6 (which is the EMC-600) like USB ports. The new designs all have the front intakes removed for a cleaner look. My favorite though is that E-Q8 - basically the EMC-800 w/o a DVD opening. Perfect.

I just ordered a 800BL to give a try since the build I am doing needs a ODD (eventually going to be for my parents). I think going forward though, from talking to people, I am going w/o ODDs in my builds unless it's absolutely necessary. They get used very infrequently if at all in the office/surfing type computer (see one in a netbook or tablet? nope) in which case an external would do.

I finally figured out the difference between the EMC-800B and EMC-800BL. The "BL" is brushed aluminum. It's a slightly updated model of the 800B with the brushed design.

Yea I put a blu ray drive in my main HTPC and it broke....and I haven't fixed it and it's easily been about a year. That's how little I use optical disc drives.

And at work I have put together countless small pcs with out optical drives. I have a few usb dvd drives that collect dust...

Anyways, brushed aluminum sounds like a nice touch.

In the future I think for modest and small HTPC's I will continue to look at these Habey and other Mini-itx cases. Although I am also itching to get my hands on one of those streacom fanless cases...

It looks like the E-Q8 is available via eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-ITX-Com...item4ab46df3a7

I didn't see this yesterday. It's still expensive and still has to come from China.

FWIW, I got an email response from Habey saying they don't carry the E-Q8.

What would you say is a reasonable price for that case w/ shipping in the US? $89 - 99?

Not that you're asking me, but FWIW, the checkout page on your website says it's over $25 to have it shipped to me. I live only 70mi away in NH.

I'm not sure. but I payed like $60 shipped I think for the original model (Habey 600). The newer ones shouldn't be much more, maybe $10-15 tops.

Well I buy lots of stuff (I have an online shopping problem). So I know it shouldn't cost about $25 to ship some of those small cases a state over by ground. $80 for a case, and the shipping is more then 1/4 of the value of the case.

And I have bought a case from you once for over $400 (OrigenAE S10V). It's a decent sized case. Shipping from you costs $27 for the OrigenAE S10V. Shipping for a Wesena ITX2, which costs $64 is $22.81... the ITX2 is probably 1/4 of the size and weight of the OrigenAE S10V.

I've shipped a AMD HD 6990 further away. It was insured for $500, and required direct signature. It weighed a lot more then those tiny cases, was in a decent sized box walled with foam ( https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5...126_185221.jpg ) and it's shipping was less then $20.

If your shipping prices were more realistic I'd probably own a bunch more cases from you. Just voicing my opinion... for what it's worth.

Current best price I've found is just under $76 shipped for the EMC-800BL which is the same size and material as the E-Q8. What I've noticed is the wholesale prices for the newer models are more than the older models. It doesn't matter though - they aren't available here, at least not for under $100. Maybe Habey will decide to carry the new model line but it didn't sound that way from their reply.

Realan (the manufacturer) also has a new "L" series of HTPC cases. They look pretty sharp.

I will check setup and product info for errors. If there are errors - I will correct them.
Thanks for input.
BTW; it is still not more than from China.

Yeah, some of them look interesting depending on the price. It took a little effort to find some pics, but I finally found some http://www.minicase.net/article_159.html

Finally they vented the top!

I actually had an argument on the phone with the Habey guy here in the US. I told them to offer a case with a vented top and it would have sold much better for maybe a few more dollars (if that) of machine time.

That's really my only complaint with the Habey. After I used that bimetal saw to rip a hole in the case above the CPU the temps dropped by 20C or more as did the noise from the fan.

Well, I don't like the PSU plug being on the side instead of the back. But that's a very very minor gripe.

If your talking about the original habey's (trying to remember)... then I think I moved my PSU plug to one of the back holes. I think it might have been the external antenna hole.

I don't recall about the extra hole. I will have to check.

Does anyone want to mill some of the Habey case tops for venting? I would pay an extra amount to have one.

Each case has 2 holes - one PSU and one external antenna. The 600 has them on the side (ick) and the 800 on the back.

I'll let you know after I get my 800BL . I have the right drill bits for it. I also have a CAD template for various fan openings. So ... you never know. It's just not easy to get a clean cut with a bit.

I am hoping if someway, somehow I can get my hands on the E-Q8 the extra height over the EMC-600 will address some of the cooling issues -- it's basically the size of the EMC-800 but with no ODD opening.

I am digging the E-l7. Yay for top venting. Yay for an expansion slot. Yay for USB/audio on the side. Boo-hiss for the serial cutouts.

I stumbled across that case earlier today. There is a youtube video of a In Win K1 that looks like the model on the official webpage. It looks similar but obviously a restylized front. In Win was suppose to launch some new options at CeBit 2012 a few days ago.
