I recently RMA'd my CMPSU-450VX Corsair power supply immediately after building a recent HTPC because of a clicking sound from it. I just got an email today from them saying the RMA was approved but the product is discontinued. I chose the VX450 because it was quiet, 80+ certified and thus would have been good in a HTPC.

They are saying they will replace it with a CMPSU-600CX but newegg reviews say that it is not actually 80plus certified, cables are long, and the unit does put out more heat/watts than I need.

Are there any other quiet corsair PSU's that I can suggest instead of this one or would you guys stick with the 600CX?

I'm hoping to make the suggestion friday by mid day to get the thing shipped (hopefully) before the weekend.

Thanks for the prompt replies

I've used it. Its a decent PSU. I hesitate to recommend it in my guide though because I just don't think its as good as their older VX line of PSUs.

Are they giving you credit and if so how much? And who is giving it to you --- newegg or Corsair? And are you restricted to just corsair?

RMA is through corsair so I am limited to them. This is what they said:

"Thank you for choosing Corsair.
We have received your RMA xxxxxxx which unfortunately is for an obsolete/discontinued product which is no longer available for direct replacement. Under our warranty policy we are able to offer you alternate replacement. Please confirm to us at your earliest convenience.
Returned Product: CMPSU-450VX
Returned Qty: 1
Potential/Alternate Replacement: CMPSU-600G
We apologize for any inconvenience you have encountered. We look forward hearing from you. Thank you! "

So no specific credit amount, but I was hoping to suggest a replacement of my choice (AVS member suggested) and see what they say. I don't care about the price as much as being quiet & cool.

Its COMPLETE overkill but one of these would probably be your best bet.

I wish they would bring back their VX series. It was my favorite PSU for the money.

going on their website, it looks like the TX series are out of stock along with the VX. I don't know if this means they discontinued those too, but I'm getting a bit frustrated here! I just sent them a message asking about recommendations for replacment.

What do you think of the HX650. I doubt they will give it though because of the price difference. 650W really is overkill. hmmm....

They won't give it. They'll make you pay the difference in a best case scenario.

That other PSU isn't horrible. Its a decent PSU. Its just not as good as the one you had, imo.

Take the best one they'll give you, sell it on ebay and buy this:

Seasonic was the OEM for the Corsairs.

I'm on board with this, myself. The HTPC-level Corsairs I saw on Newegg were either low-quality discount models or higher-end models overpriced for my purpose. I bought a 380w Seasonic, and while I haven't gotten to play with it much yet (different hold-up on the build), that PSU spins up ninja-quiet.

VX450 was a mid-range Seasonic PSU

CX600 is a low-end, overrated CWT PSU
