I can't for the life of me figure out how to make 3D sbs mkv's playback properly. I've got an Nvidia GT240 video card, and an Acer 720p DLP 3D capable projector and when I try to play back the mkv's, they just show side by side pictures of the same image, is there a "for dummies" idiot proof guide for how to play the sbs files back in 3D ???

PS: 3D blu rays play back fine, no issues...

From the pc's point of view all it does is play the side by side just like you said. You don't need any special hardware in a pc to play SBS, it sjust a normal 1080p video.
The projector or display device then needs to adjust the image for 3d. My plasma recognizes the SBS video and joins them.

So this is a setting in your projector that you need to adjust. I have no experience with projectors so thats all I can say.
