The 900 can use RF (radio) to send a signal to a base station. The base station re-broadcasts the command via IR (infra-red). This lets you control components that you do not have line of sight to such as inside a cabinet or in another room/closet.
If all of the components you are trying to control are in the same room and you can see their IR sensor then save the $100 and get a Harmony One. Otherwise get a Harmony 900.
I also believe the 900 has a better LCD screen with a bit higher resolution, and it also has dedicated physical buttons for the common RED,YELLOW,GREEN,BLUE commands.
Worth an extra $100? You decide
I have the Harmony One and I love it. Probably my favorite gadget and I'm a gadget freak!
