I would like to install Media Player Classic Home Cinema x64 alongside my working Windows 7 64-bit setup with Shark007 codecs. Everything works perfectly now, from MKV to FLAC, even DTS audio.

I thought MPC-HC might add codecs of it's own. Yet it is a direct show player, so could theoretically use my existing codecs.

Am I going to mess up a perfectly good system by installing it? I really just want the player, and no modifications to my codecs. Guess I should take a disk image first . . .

on my tools page I redistribute up-to-date SVN releases of MPC-HC that are preconfigured to use the codecs installed on your system.
even though I have a 64bit system, I still use the 32bit player because codec compatibility is more refined in the 32bit versions.

Use Shark007 Codecs and retain your sanity.
