I just got off the phone with a representative that stated that because I am only getting Internet service they only allow the "max" package at 12mb download. Is that correct?

I am moving from tw to save money, remove tv service, and hope to stream espn3 online. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't go higher but I still think 12mb will be ok.

Internet usage is typical web browsing for 2. My wife and I are also starting a nonprofit and do all the web design in-house. I am a IT consultant and connect to clients remotely and the need to download full disk images drivers etc...

Not sure why they say that because U-verse can go up to 18Mbps. Beyond 20Mbps, you will need 2 pairs of phone lines.

It does not look like you will need that high of speed anyway. Have you measured your throughput when downloading large file? Chances are your source may not offer that fat of a pipe...

I have AT&T DSL, but not U-verse, and my max speed is their 6 Mbps DSL package. Real world with packet overhead & stuff, I can consistently get just over 5 Mbps when downloading videos from Amazon, etc. It is somewhat depressing. I'm about to get a 4G LTE cellphone from Verizon, and I'll get better download speed from it over the air than from copper wires to the house from AT&T. I'm sure it will have worse ping times, though, and low ping times are crucial for me to be able to work from home.

Bazinga!

That can't be right. I'm in San Jose, CA and have U-verse internet only and I get 18-19 Mbps download consistently. I used to have ATT phone too but cut that off several months ago and went with Ooma. We also have Roku and haven't had any bandwidth issues.

If I wanted a faster DSL, I'll have to bundle it with U-verse. No thanks. They may be forcing my hand into switching to TimeWarner Cable. Heck, with TWC I can get wideband internet speeds up to 50 Mbps without having to subscribe to cable TV. Unfortunately, the last time I had TWC, I had more outages during 1.25 years with TWC than I've had in 5 years with AT&T DSL.

Bazinga!

I got uverse 12mbit for 19.95/month for 12 months. I don't have uverse tv. I don't remember being told that i would have to package tv to get the faster speeds. I did buy my modem vs rental and did self install.
