Is it better to use the current AMD HDMI Audio driver that comes with the ATI driver package or use the Realtek audio driver?

You must use the Ati hdmi driver to bitstream HD audio.

If you are sendign the audio through the HDMI then the AMD driver. If you are sending audio some other way (SPDIF, line-out, etc) you need the realtek.

I've found Realtek works with WinDVD, AMD works with TMT and WinDVD. Depends on player compatibility concerning HD audio.

Depends on the player you are using.

Wrong Realtek driver. You are talking about the Realtek HD Audio driver for analog soundcards. There is also a Realtek driver for AMD HDMI audio devices.

@OP: What Davinleads said. If you use TMT, stick with the AMD. Any other player, it doesn't really matter. Since AMD fixed the silent stream issue, there's not much difference between the drivers.

Yeah there are TWO realtek drivers. These are for different audio devices. "Realtek ATI HDMI" works for the HDMI audio on Radeon 5000, 6000 cards. The other Realtek driver is for built-in motherboard analog and digital (SPDIF).

I'd just stick with the Catalyst AMD HDMI driver. It works for me. I have bitstreaming TrueHD and DTS-HD working with MPC HC and ffdshow.
