No. I also switched from SabNZBd to NZB-Get.

is my HD homerun Prime dying?

I got our HD homerun PRIME in 2013. It's been rock solid since then except now. Today, for instance, all the HD channels went out. The SD channels worked fine but the HD channels were scrambled or I got a WMC 'no signal' error. I called Comcast and they said there was an outage, and after a few hours, I am getting HD reception again. However, the quality of service over time has definitely deterioated. Like right now, I tried to tun into TBS-HD and ESPN2-HD and the sound would come in and I'm presented with a black screen. The only way I can get TBS-HD (or other channels this happens on) to work is to either restart WMC or restart the computer, and tune into TBS-HD. it isnt a computer issue because I have replicated this problem on other computers. It also isn't a windows update or something like that which is a problem because I have diabled updates for all our media center PCs (they are only used as set top boxes to watch TV).

So what's the problem: is it Comcast screwing around or is it homerun?

Can you post the Prime logs from the web interface?

Do you have a tuning adapter? Does it say "Ready" if you do?

Have Comcast re-send all hits and then power cycle the prime.

If you have a tuning adapter power cycle it first, wait, power down the Prime then bring back up the tuning adapter, then the prime.

Report back.

Do you have any instructions on how to get the prime logs?

I dont require a tuning adapter.

I called this morning when none of the channels were working and the comcast lady did 'something' but at time it didn't do anything since it was an outage. I can call tomorrow and ask them to rehit the box. I have power cycled it a bunch of times this morning trying to get my cable to work but haven't power cycled outside of that.

Look in your router configuration page for the mac ID of the Prime then look for the ip address associated with the Prime. It should be something like 10.0.0.xxx or 192.168.0.xxx..Put that in the address bar of your web browser. Altrenatively, open your HDHR Configuration Software and click on any of the three tuners.

Navigate to the CableCARD Screen. Check the status of the CablCARD.. strength, quality, etc.

Navigate to the System Status Screen. Click on System Log and scroll down, looking at what it says. Copy paste it here.

Report back.

this week has been absolutely freezing, much colder than normal.

I think maybe they have moved to mpeg4. I haven't lived in Nashville in two years. All I can say is that before I left, the picture quality was actually quite good from comcast. Now it's just a blocky, compressed, almost unwatchable mess. I like to watch Sunday Night football on the projector and the local NBC feed blown up to 10 feet looks horrendous. So does any ESPN/FOX/ABC feed and I swear it wasn't this bad before. We also have 1 analog TV for which we rent a small cable box from them. That is all digital as well so i think maybe they did go to MPEG4 here.

update: the problem, whatever it is, is definitely getting worse. I was just watching MSNBC-HD right now and it just stopped playing and WMC said 'no signal or station available'. I even waited 2 minutes and nothing changed. Then I tried another channel and they worked fine. Going back to MSNBC worked fine but to have a channel abruptly stop playing has NEVER happened before, not in the 3+ years of having the PRIME. I have also noticed at many points tonight that I have limited access to my cable lineup. Channel surfing onto some channels will only play audio, and I have to restart WMC or the computer to get them to work. I have no clue what is different, I have made no hardware changes. the firmware on the PRIME is the current firmware and the only other thing I can think of is that we have a cable amplifier connected on one of the outlets. But it has been there for the last 3 years and I've had no issues with TV reception until yesterday/today. Is this a signal strength issue? Could the comcast tech's be of any help at all?

Why don't you check it using SD's app?

I had the same thing happen recently. The trouble was being caused by a WD Access program running on one of the desktop computers on the network. It wasn't even installed on the HTPC but it was causing problems tuning channels in WMC.

To test if something on the network is misbehaving, try un-plugging the ethernet cables for everything on your network except the tuner and the HTPC and see if the problem goes away. If the problem goes away re-connect the network cables for the other devices one at a time until you find out which device is causing trouble.

Take a look at the Tuner Status. Start watching a channel then go to Tuner Status and then check the active tuner. Report back the signal strength and quality.

Signal strength in my case was good - all close to 90%

Signal quality is where I've seen changes overnight. You basically need it to be 55% or higher to work. Last night after work I was in good shape, but I noticed again this morning that certain channels were dropping to 50% or lower.

Amplifying won't fix bad quality. Its possible there is some ingress somewhere. I live less than a mile up the hill from Comcast's primary hub in Pittsburgh, so hopefully if I do need their help they can do it quickly.

I'm going to try blow drying the outdoor connection and wrapping it in electrical tape tonight, in case moisture has gotten in there.

If I have problems again Saturday morning I'm going to connect my HDHR direct to the line off the street to rule out my internal home connections as the issue.

Yet another reason to live in SoCal!

All kidding aside, isn't the outdoor connection the provider's responsibility to keep in good shape?

Also, limiting the number of splitters is key but if you haven't had issues until now I'd say it is on their side unless you have something in your walls, attic or basement chewing your cables. I'm pretty sure you already know this as long as you've been on these forums, pittsoccer33, but the quality of the connector and each splitter in your chain is very important.

At my previous house, I had Charter drop a new cable right off the pole and had one splitter feeding the modem and Prime/TA. When I moved to the new house, I had one of those thick buried cable feeds from across the box street, one splitter to the office where it splits again as before to the modem and Prime/TA. Next week, I have them coming out to install a new splitter for another Prime/TA. For $35 it is well worth it to have them do the install with their quality cabling, splitters and fittings.

Why don't you check it using SD's app?
That would be the web page diagnostics, yes?

I had the same thing happen recently. The trouble was being caused by a WD Access program running on one of the desktop computers on the network. It wasn't even installed on the HTPC but it was causing problems tuning channels in WMC.

To test if something on the network is misbehaving, try un-plugging the ethernet cables for everything on your network except the tuner and the HTPC and see if the problem goes away. If the problem goes away re-connect the network cables for the other devices one at a time until you find out which device is causing trouble.
Yet another thing to look at. Too much network traffic and you'll have issues.

This brings to mind another probable cause. If there was an outage due to electrical instabilities (power outage or lighting strikes?) in your area, it could have taken out your router or at least damaged it. A long shot I know, but worth keeping in mind while diagnosing this issue.

I see. I hardly ever use that and checking this out requiers access to the logs. That said, going to the config page and re-running it won'thurt and may show less channels than before becaus of channel weakness from whatever cause it may be.

It's in the HDHomeRun folder and provides real time signal strength. No logs required, but agree it's probably good to occasionally rerun setup.

Network Tuner Monitor is a pretty good program for keeping an eye on things. It shows you a detailed status of all of your HDHomeRun tuners in one display. It includes signal strength and quality, and a lot more.

I get what you're saying but I prefer to have a complete picture of what is going on when I start diagnosis. I have been fortunate enough to never have to deal with weak signals or symbols so, although I've seen this real-time monitoring page, I don't use it. Also, It is difficult on there to determine which channel you're monitoring.

One other thing comes to mind. What firmware and software version are you using? You may want to consider upgrading to the latest stable version which came out last August.

You can use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to get the real channel numbers if you are using an antenna based HDHR. For cable channels, it's more difficult, but in both cases the network/channel name is displayed in the application where it says "Program", so that makes it pretty easy. The easiest way I've seen to get Config to go to the channel you want is to start a stream with WMC or View, which should put Tuner0 in use, then when you go to Config, Tuner0 will be on that channel.

Our power didn't go out over the last couple of days. I haven't installed any new devices on the network within the last few days, or are any devices or computers on and running when they are not in use. The only thing acting up is the prime.

One other thing I have noticed is my internet speed is now markedly slow. I have comcast's 'blast!' service package which was giving me 90/10 speeds, as of yesterday and today, its down to about 50. Not sure if that matters or if something happened to the line which is the cause of all this.

I will be running this while I watch TV for the next few days and report back. It's really sad and frustrating that I have to go through all this as the prime has worked perfectly for so many years and I've checked the signal strength and quality, which has never been less than 99% on all channels.Even now it's always at 99% until it randomly drops all the way down and then a few minutes later goes back up again.

You know how stingy they are with sending their trucks. I dont want to pay for a house call when it is their fault. What do I say to them to come out here without me having to pay for it, or should I wait till the weather improves?
