Although I've had access to On Demand on other systems, I never really used it. I've always found 99% of the content worthless. The other 1% I can usually find on Hulu or elsewhere. WAF is still high because she never used On Demand either. But I do understand how regular users of On Demand would miss it. Even if my wife did miss it, after we discussed how much money we saved by not having any cable boxes, she'd agree we could live without it.
Ceton's app is great for remote recording management, but Remote Potato still works fine too. I usually stick with Remote Potato since it also streams my recordings and works in a web browser as well as a phone/tablet.
Does the Samsung box work with On Demand? As a cable card tuner, I don't think it does. But even if you don't have a Prime or InfiniTV and don't mind the extra outlet fees, it still doesn't make a lot of sense as a cable box replacement because the payback time would be forever. Lets say a box is $5/month from your cable company. So you replace it with a $150 Samsung and pay $2/month for a card. That's over 4 years just to break even. And if it breaks, you have to buy a new one rather than get another free box from your cable company.
Having said all that, I am glad to see more cable card devices in the marketplace. Maybe Samsung is just testing the waters before they offer a DVR. That would be something I'd be very interested in.
I went through that last year during huricane Sandy. I was without power for 10 days, but I had a generator and thats what allowed me to still have entertainment, even though the Cable was out for that duration.

Not easy to use? Once set up I basically don't even know it exists and others in the house don't either. Charter doesn't give away equipment for free.. It is $5/month for each STB and $19.99/month for DVR "service". For me that is $34.99/month but with the Prime and two Ceton Echo extenders it costs me $2/month. The second extender will take a while to pay off at $5/month but it is worth it to have more control over my set up.
My Prime is super easy to use for me. I have all my shows setup the way I want and every week or so I go through with video redo and edit out all the comercials and send the edits to my HD media drive and watch them as I have time. It's just not as good as a tuner as both my media players see it but aren't that stable with it so the cable box I'm not paying extra for is easier to use to watch live TV. The Samsung also see's the prime and even has the channels in the right order and everything but seeing how the Samsung also works nicely as a live tuner for cable it's kinda not needed now. The Ceton Echo is a cool product but is kinda spendy and I don't have a X box and the only reason I would buy one is as a extender so it'd have to be a dirt cheap used one for me.
I had enough money saved up in Pay Pal and wanted to try the Samsung and get rid of the two useless DTA's I never used but was getting charged for so I took them back and picked up a extra card. The samsung wont work for many here but is a pretty nice cable box only with smart features. We'll see how it affects my bill but so far for what it is I like it and will set it up in the extra room here eventually.
I think DVR service here is at least 20 a month and until recently only two tuners. My mom has one and she's retired and broke so for her maybe a prime and a smasung and she might actually save money and still have a decent box and DVR. she has one of my old computers and it should be able to run media center but not sure she wants to spend the extra money up front to get the extra gear needed so folks like her might be good with just a samsung tuner to save some money.
Another question about that Ceton Android app: Sammy2 mentioned that the cost is for one device. I have never heard of an Android app that, once you download it, you can only run it on one device (paying again for each extra device).
Is this correct? I'm ready to get it, but if the above is correct I need to be sure to install it on my cell, which, unlike my tablet, I always carry with me.
You know I don’t know but I thought it was that way with all apps. I only have one phone associated with my play store account and didn't know I could do this.

I have the app running on my phone and tablet, no problem. As long as both devices are associated with the same account, this is the case for all apps.
I have several Angry bird games I downloaded when they were free and it doesn't care what it's on, just install it and it runs. Same with some of the file managers and like that that I've gotten for free. It's possible if it's a pay app it might have a serial or something that ties it to one device as I don't do any pay apps so far. Many PC apps that are pay have like 3 licenses seeing how most users have more then one PC with windows on it but who knows how all the Android pay apps are. I bet most as long as you have the serial it will just work but check it out to make sure.

I think if you get a card you should then get ALL channels you pay for. When I got mine I went right down and got a card and got it activated and paired and all that and it gets all my channels nicely but I have at least digital prefered triple play. I just picked up the new Samsung cable box/media player that uses a card so I plugged it in without a card to see what it would do and make sure it worked. I only got about 6 channels, a couple of Comcast ad channels, some local access, and part of a on demand channel. A few days later I got the card and went through the process again and now it see's everything I pay for. It wont show any of the on demand channels at all, but everything else works fine now and it even has a basic guide.
They aren't charging me rent for the card, but ARE charging me 9.95 for a digital outlet so watch out for that one. I asked about that one up front and the gal told me yes they will charge the DTA fee. Your provider may be different so check around and ask questions before you jump in. I do also get a 2.50 a month customer owneed equipment credit for each box.
Has anyone had luck convincing Comcast not to charge the monthly HD Technology Fee once it's been charged? Ive been using the HD Prime with a cablecard for a couple of months now and finally had my wife return their DVR today. I received a change of service email that showed the $2.50 credit for custormer owned requipment, but it also still shows the $9.95 HD Technology Fee. I have no Comcast-owned equipment and no "additional outlets" anymore, although I'm using XBoxes as extenders for the kids' TVs. I am free of paying Comcast equipment rental fees for the first time in many years! I'd just like to not pay them almost $120 a year in HD Technology fees.
I'm considering calling retentions again and tell them I don't want to pay their bogus digital outlet fee anyways. Last timed I called I just told them I like my TV but I like eating and paying my mortgage better and I'm not going to be able to afford 200 a month. They dropped my package to 150 for two years and when that goes away I'll call again.
I tell everyone to call as they'll almost always offer you a better deal to stay put. Pretty sure the retention guys get paid to get you to stay put with better offers rather then loose a custome. I just wish they'd stop playing games and making folks jump through hoops to get the price they're willing to give.
Yeah, If I could get a decent signal for CBS and Fox using an attic antenna, then I would have already dropped the TV. I called a couple months ago and told them I was switching the TV to Dish or UVerse if they didn't drop my package back to $99, which they did for a year. I had to reject their offers to give me a higher level package for what I was paying (almost $190/month), but they finally agreed.
Their internet speed and stability cant be beat here (Nashville area), so I would have kept that. I don't care about the phone service, but its part of the bundle. I'm just not looking forward to another call with them to try to get them to drop the HD Tech Fee.
When you call ask directly for retentions to save time, the regular guys always try to upsell you then MAYBE they'll finally give up and send you to them. They tried to do the same to me and finally told me to call retentions and he offered the 2 year deal fairly quickly. Of course I was told my bill including all the taxes and extra crap would be around 130 and it finally settled at about 150, but I do have the prefered package with Stars added.
Stars is supposed to be free but I was told if I dropped it I'd save a few more bucks a month. If it wasn't for dish and direct TV I doubt they'd be willing to do much so any competition helps us even if you end up going with a dish to save some money, but yes so far their net has been fast and rock stable, and the phone service is cheaper for better extras like free long distance so probably save a few bucks there as our old phone bill being careful to not make any long distance calls was more.
This month they havent added the extra card and box even though it's working so bill is the same, including pay for the two DTA's I gave back.
See what happens next month if everything catches up.
I am at my intellectual end with this one repurposed laptop that i'm using in my mom's room as a WMC client with the homerun prime.
She has an old Dell Latitude E6520, (specs here: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-e6520/pd ) that I setup with the homerun prime. Clean windows install, no other applications running, just MCE. I have it wired over gigabit ethernet and every channel is fine. The problem is that I get random audio/video stutters on it. The video and audio skip at the same time, but when they do, the audio echoes from the point of the skip and lasts through the duration of the frame drop'. They are totally random and when the audio stutters, you can hear the electronic echo (if that makes any sense). It only lasts for less than a half second but it seems to be present regardless of the channel (not a 29/59 bug). The laptop overall is fairly powerful (so i know its not a system specs issue), it has a quad core i7, 8gb ram, intel 3000 graphics (along with some nvidia drivers, i think for a quadro card, i dont really even understand what is going on with that), and a samsung 840 pro 256gb ssd that I installed, all running on windows 7.
Like I said, when it doesnt randomly stutter, it runs perfect, just as you would expect, but this quirk is driving me nuts. I have formatted and reinstalled the system about 5 times. Ive tried every bios upgrade/downgrade i can find and have the latest video and audio drivers installed from intel and nvidia respectively. I havent had similar issues with the 4 other computers we have in our house but I'd like to know whats going on, if anyone here has dealt with this problem...
Tried reading over the thread, but couldn't find an answer after about 10 pages... but anyways, sorry if its already been answered. Has anyone gotten the Premium Cable folder to fully work over DLNA? I am trying to use my Panasonic's dlna to view it, but only the Cable follder works as intended.
The Premium Cable folder gets perfect picture every time, but the audio is either non-existent or is really choppy. There were two times where I had perfect audio after leaving a channel on for over 10 minutes.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's my understanding that the Premium folder only works with select devices due to a specific security implementation. The PS3 is they only one I'm aware of.

It's intel for both gigabit lan and wlan. How can i go about testing this theory? is there a way to check framerate drops and measure other statistics?

If you have a managed switch on your gigabit network, then the answer might be yes, depending on what the management software provides (many provide browser-based monitoring).
If not, and you have a spare PC, you can setup that PC with the network sniffer software called wireshark. wireshark link
I've started getting what looks like a handshake issue. On first attempt to tune a channel after wake I get a black screen but full audio. Change the channel once and video returns. No other issues. It doesn't seem to affect scheduled recordings, just live TV.
