I'm having an issue with maintaining HDMI audio after cycling receiver/tv power. The PC thinks it has no HDMI audio connection and disables the device. I'll have video but no audio. If I open the sound properties the PC detects the HDMI connection and reactivates. I didn't used to have this problem. I believe an upgrade Catalyst driver introduced the problem.

I've tried 11.11, 11.10, 11.9 and now 11.8 and they all have the same issue (I use driver sweeper to clean between each install). Does anyone else experience this? What driver version is working for you?

My setup is:
ATI 5870
Denon 980
Samsung HL67A750

I have the PC stay on 24/7. I've tried keeping the video card on and letting it go standby - both exhibit the issue.

I had this same problem with a HD4850, but once upgraded to at 6670 it completely went away. Know idea if anything else changed except the card. The only solution for me was to unplug the HDMI cable and replug it in.

The above problem is why I got the HDMI detective.

I had the same problem w/ my 6970 no matter what version of catalyst I used.

I take it you are talking about Gefen HDMI Detective Plus? Do you have personal experience that this passes HD audio EDIDs without issue?

You could extend the desktop to your avr and connect the video directly to your tv.

Try 11.4

You need the older HD audio driver 7.12.0.7700. I think 11.6 has it also

Make sure you uninstall your current version first because the older audio driver wont overwrite the current version.

My solution was to install 7.12.0.7701 ATI audio driver and save it when I updated the video driver. Both earlier and later drivers caused this issue with my Denon AVP. I have not tried 7.12.0.7704 yet though!

Your mileage may vary but it works for me

Thanks Andy and Beamer.

I went to 11.4 and thus far haven't lost audio with 7.12.0.7700. If it keeps up, then I'll attempt to update the video driver while leaving the HDMI audio driver. Is this accomplished by doing a custom uninstall, telling it to leave the audio driver and then when installing new Catalyst driver telling it not to install the audio driver?

Please beware, as I recall the 7700 driver had other issues!

If it works for you stay with it

FYI I run with Cat 11.8 & 7701

I found that audio works fine up to 11.6 (7701 I think).
