My plasma TV is a 1080i Panasonic. So naturally, I've been setting the Echo at "Native" and hoping for the best.
I just got the new 116 beta to try. SAME DAMN RESULTS AS BEFORE!!! 29/59 bug and no deinterlacing on my test videos! Cursing Sammy, I thought I'd hook the Echo directly to the TV - bypassing my HTIB (Home Theater In a Box for you acronym haters). NO DIFFERENCE -- except I had to turn the AC-3 bitstreaming off to keep from being blasted by static.
While my TV is not a 1080p TV, I figured I'd try the "1080p" setting next. I hooked my HTIB up again. NO DIFFERENCE!
Then I thought, "Didn't Sammy have a 720p TV?" So I tried the "720p" setting next.
OMG! OMG! OMG! It works at 720p!!!! The awful combing from the Malta clip was gone! The 29/59 stuttering on an HBO movie was pretty much eliminated!
Now... how about fixing 1080i???
(note: this involves very limited testing on my part)
After my Echo experience, I've been thinking about getting a new Xbox 720 when they come out. Can someone verify that some versions of the Xbox 360 can act as a wireless-N extender at 1080i? I'm hoping that by THE END OF 2013 when the Xbox 720 arrives, the Echo will be functional and I can use the Xbox upstairs wirelessly.
