I have a core 2 quad, 16gb ram, and currently have a 4670 card installed on my asus computer . It has a 300watt psu. It works just fine and gives me a windows score of 6.8 on the two graphics scores. Problem is, the 4670 does not bitstream hd audio. I don't know much about this stuff so I need a little help deciding what to get without taking a step back with my graphics card. I want to keep it under $75 (I know, not much) and have looked into the gt 430 card but am not sure if that is a good choice. I don't really game, but I do want the best card for the money. I would prefer it be pretty quiet. Thanks

any help would be appreciated. I should add that my main concern is blu ray movies and will game only a little. pq/aq are of most concern. And it would be nice to keep my windows score near the 6.8 range the 4670 puts it in. thanks

Why do you care about the Windows score? Its rubbish.

Get the Nvidia 430/440. Or a ATI 6570.

Both under $75 and great for HTPC. Both have passive options.

Are you ok with the gaming performance of your current card? 5670 can bitstream HD audio and should be a little more powerful then your card.

There is also a 6670 but I am pretty sure those are just rebranded 5670's. But they are a little more then the one I linked.

The issue is your PSU. I personally feel it could run a 5670. But ATI will tell you to use a minimum of 400w. A lot of times they overdue it to cover their butt. You can google "5670 review" to find the power draw. Or any card for that matter. That would be the minimum card I would get for gaming. But even that will be fairly weak. I had one and it could play call of duty at 1440x900 pretty good. It will definitely struggle on any decent game at 1080p.

*EDIT And I agree with Assassin on the windows score.

Ha ha... I figured I would get a response like that about the windows score. I just figured that would give an idea of what I had now, lol. The 430 seems to be pretty trouble free so I am leaning that way. Would it be noticeably worse than my 4670 on games or some mild video editing? Do graphics cards have an effect on re encoding with programs like bd rebuilder or handbrake? Thanks for the help.

Not sure about bd rebuilder but handbrake uses the CPU. The 430 is going to be weaker as far as gaming goes. Its not really recommended for any sort of gaming. It is also weaker in that regard then your 4670. Heres a comparison list of graphics cards in terms of gaming performance.

I also have a core 2 quad and looking for a video card any one know the difference between these two and which would be the better choice, going to be hooked up HDMI to a Denon receiver and out to a 55 inch LCD.

The first card doesn't fit in most cases. Too tall with the heatpipes.

Thats too much for a 430. I don't think 440 is much of an improvement over the 430. I believe just faster memory.

Heres some cheaper 430's. I bought the Asus.

If you game a bit HD 6670 is about that price and can be had low-profile.
