for my desktop pc?

http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellS...3-_-02092012_3

My current Antec case is 10 years old and quite loud. I'm thinking that I don't need so many fans anymore and it has no sound deadening.

Thanks.

YES !!

It's probably the best case for a silent pc and that is a terrific price.

Well I decided to wait. I'm thinking that it might not fit in my desk and I'm not at home right now. The one I have now works and there'll be another deal I'm sure. PLUS, I need to finish paying off Christmas!!

I looked at it too and had the same conclusion. About 1" too long and too high for my new desktop. Otherwise I would have bit.

What do you mean by that?

I don't appreciate a lot of these cases these day with all sorts of appendages on them.. I just want a straight forward case. Is there issues with the assembly and end use that you are aware of?

No sorry I just hate the look. I never really liked shuttle style cases. Especially this one with the square on the front what is that a piece of acrylic? Just not my thing but its just personal preference.

Wow, what a deal! I have an Intel e5200 sitting around, so this is perfect. I'm using one computer right now as HTPC and server, and I've meaning to split that load.

I used an Antec 300 for my server case. Nice case with lots of room and very quiet due to the large diameter fans.

I was looking at that case as well, very tempting

Love these cases...at least the original design. Need to get one for the next project.

Assassin, I wondered, have you ever used a Corsair Carbide 400R case? I was thinking of getting one of these for an upcoming build and wondered if you had any thoughts.

Corsair cases have usually been pretty expensive, but this Carbide line is pretty reasonable.

HAHA!!

It was the link to the shell shocker deal page and the deal changed. It was the Fractal Designs case which I ended up passing over. I really need to research more before just getting a case on an impulse buy.

Come to think of it I do need a new coffee maker..

Another BTW, I use mine to make great coffee. I leave the expressos, cappuccinos and fru fru drinks to the wife.

Looks pretty nice for $89 (which is the current price at Micro Center, $99 at Newegg) and it includes two front and one rear 120mm fan, plus fan mounts and vents on the top and side. I could see using 5 or 6 fans turning less than 1000 rpm; would probably be pretty quiet that way. (Note, this is for a regular all-purpose desktop build, not an htpc, but just thought you might be familiar with this case.) But it also looks like it would work well as a server with room for 9 disks plus an optical drive, and a full ATX mobo.

$70 AR + shipping at the egg right now. Looks like a pretty good deal but I might just do something to quiet my existing case as it is a nice antec unit that is still very functional.

It could be as easy as vacuuming the fans to remove the dust. The other options are buying new quiet and/or larger diameter fans, but that is throwing money at an old case.

Reminds me of this guy at work that said his HDD was failing and wanted me to help fix it. I went out to Microcenter during lunch and grabbed a HDD and went to his house after work. Turned on the PC and it sounded horrible. However, it didn't sound like a HDD and instead sounded like a bad fan. Using a screwdriver to stop each fan to determine which was bad it turned out to be the power supply fan. I took it out, peeled back the sticker, and dropped a couple drops of lube on to the bearing. Put the sticker back on and put it back together and it was nice and quiet again. In other words it cost this guy two drops of lube to get a quiet PC.

It is the sound of the airflow. The case is cooled for older, hotter computers and has always been loud. New fans might due the trick. It is a great case. Hold 6 HDD'S.

Looks sweet!

I like cases that are large enough so you don't smash your hand on anything working on them.

Nice storage bays too

Obviously the shell shocker deal is over, but I just wanted to comment on my experience with the Shuttle SG41J4. In short, this little case is great! Easiest PC installation of my life. The motherboard and PSU are included and already installed. I dropped in an Intel e5200, 4 gb of RAM, an ATI 5670 and an old IDE hard drive. I didn't encounter a single issue. Wake from sleep via my USB IR remote works too. Even at $140, this is still a very good deal. I also think it looks better in person. The only potential issue I can think of is that it doesn't support ACPI, which is important if you're using an ssd.

At this point I'm thinking of getting new 120mm fans that work off the 3 pin MoBo header and putting them in my Antec case. It has two in and two out plus the PSU fan and processor fan... or a fan speed controller.

It's a great case that holds 6 internal 3.5 HDDS that would do well with a coat of black paint too!
