2TB external shipped for $100 AR.

From the manufacturer's website:

Quote:
Q What make/model of disk mechanisms do you use in MicroNet/Fantom Drives products?

A MicroNet / Fantom Drives uses only the highest quality disk drives from top-tier hard disk manufacturers such as: Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, and Samsung. We carefully vet each model of hard disk we carry to ensure that it meets our rigorous demands for quality and performance. In addition, any disk mechanism we use will meet or exceed the stated specifications for any particular MicroNet or Fantom Drives product.

Quote:
Q What is the rotational rate (RPM) of my MicroNet / Fantom Drives product? Why should I care about this specification?

A Micronet/Fantom Drives has multiple storage products. Some list the rotational velocity as part of the specification, and some do not. We do so in order to qualify a broader selection of disk mechanisms at the best possible costs, while offering more specific requirement products to offer customers storage solutions more tailored to their needs. The rotational velocity is an aspect of the storage product's overall performance, and may be required for specific professional applications such as pro audio capture- consult your application vendor's system requirements for more information.

Pretty lame explanations.

Hey,

Well I don't think anybody can guess what's going to be inside the box especially if they say it can be any of the 4 brands. I guess you can buy 4 and hope all 4 are the Hitachi's you want.

The Samsung on newegg is Limit 5 per customer.

Take Care

Thanks for the tip. I don't know why that newegg eblast didn't show up in my email but I think I'm going to get at least 2 of those samsung F4 drives today.

Woot Woot! UPS delivery today. I love newegg! The benefit of being close is fast delivery at the expense of paying sales tax .

It was a 24 hour sale or maybe 48 hour sale. I didn't get the eBlast either but <>< posted the link and the code was right there at the top of the product page. It was in the "current email" section on the left side of the home page. The shipping was free yesterday too!

Right now they have Hitachi and Seagate 2TB drives for $110. Both are SATA III if that makes any difference. I have 4 of the Hitachi's from when they were on Shell shocker and other adds a year ago in the$60 to $80 range. I work them pretty hard accertaining and manipulating gigs of data and they are working well. Nary a click or a whirl and they stay under 30C too. They have the nickname "deathstar" but their actual name is deskstar and they have worked flawlessly for me. You might want to check them out.

I'm not really in a big need right now. I recently bought a seagate 2tb that still has about 1tb left. But I love samsung ecogreens. Under 30c you must have a cold room and some sweet air flow.

3 80's that must be loud. My drives stay under 40c which I'm fine with.

That's why I just replaced them all with nexus real silent fans. The 120 is the loudest now but I can hear the system fan cycling now. It's an old case. If I were to get a new one it would be all 120's.
