Have you had a chance to test the j1800 or j1900 to date renethx?

Not yet. Only one person reported that Bay Trail supports 3D. But he didn't say which 3D format he meant. Ark.Intel says Bay Trail does not support 3D. I will test J1900 soon anyway.

Instead I tested AMD Athlon 5350 (AM1 platform). It supports 3D (MVC decoding and Frame Packing output) and HD audio bitstreaming. This is the cheapest 3D solution. I am getting Sempron to see if it supports them too.

Good to know, I look forward to your results

Just spouting an idea, but they were probably playing back hSBS in XBMC Gotham -- no hardware acceleration as I'm aware, but I'm betting it has the horsepower

I tested Celeron J1900 (finally ). Celeron J1900 supports:

- BR 3D: both MVC hardware-accelerated decoding (30% CPU usage) and frame packing 3D output.
- Quad core is fast enough to decode MVC by CoreMVC in Stereoscopic Player (60% CPU usage).
- Precise 23Hz (at least as precise as Haswell GPU).
- No HD audio bitstreaming under Windows.

If you want 3D, go with A6-6400K with A88X / A78 mb. Bay Trail-M and D (Celeron N2820, J1800, J1900 etc.) is also reported to support 3D, but only if you want the lowest power system.

From a performance perspective, not just for HTPC use, I am someone who uses google chrome and regularly has about 100 browser tabs open at once, would it be more advisable to choose a Pentium G3258 and overclock it to about 4.6ghz+, but I'd need a more expensive Z/H97 motherboard or use a H81 chipset and Core I3 4360?

I think the 4360 has more powerful integrated graphics, but Pentium should have hardware lanczos dxva scaling? and Vector Adaptive de-interlacing. As for the lack of displayport on H81 motherboards I think there is a programme where I can output the iGPU through the ports of a dGPU.

Is there much of a performance hit from using just 1 8gb Ram module rather than 2x4?

Thanks

For lots of browser tabs, (system) memory size matters. Processor speed is irrelevant.

Even Intel HD Graphics in Celeron/Pentium Haswell desktop processor is enough for good deinterlacing and DXVA2 scaling. But Intel HD Graphics 4400/4600 of Core i3/i5/i7 has twice EUs so you will feel more comfortable, say, with madVR.

Yes, 1x8GB is inferior to 2x4GB in many applications, including video playback with madVR.

If you want DisplayPort, I recommend MSI H97M-G43.

Thanks, man! Lovin' my J1900 10 Watts of awesomeness. Don't need HD audio for cable TV anyway. Got the rest covered by other devices.

Liked the silence so much, I replaced my main desktop with a J1900 too.
