JRiver Media Center is my favorite. It doesn't have everything yet but it's damn good at what it does and it is always getting better.

Same applies to XBMC, it doesn't have everything but it sure gets better on each release.

Jriver is an entirely different beast in a class of it's own and can't really be compared to XBMC...

They both are media players... agreed... but XBMC only compares to Jriver in picture quality, and has better eye candy thingy...

When you go into advanced functionalities... audio room correction, dsp...etc..etc with digital TV... watching live TV with MadVR... etc... etc... Jriver is way way ahead of XBMC...

Wait until Jriver gets the eye candy stuff sorted out and let's re-do this opinion poll again...

BTW, I use XBMC (+ Plex) on my main HTPC at home and Jriver is only on my test machine... but I am sure this is going to change in some time to come...

I do this mostly unless I have already opened WMC. Its just easier to browse a folder. I also still prefer the start bar to desktop icons, so no use for win8.

I was on XBMC until they borked HD bitstreaming. Back to MPC-HC for me.

In terms of LFE, size does matter!

My biggest problem with XBMC was with the metadata scrapers. I prefer to use other programs for metadata and I couldn't get XBMC to use my own metadata instead of it's own. Other than that I loved it. The one thing I truly love about JRiver is that I use the option to set up zones and I can have the same synced audio playing through my living room, family room, and outside on the patio with each one using a separate audio connection to the pc.

MadVR with LiveTV? That's nice but in addition to eye candy, it needs to support CableCARD tuners and extenders before I can justify using it.

I couldn't find the poll. But polls on forums are lame anyhow because they are not scientific and only measure the small amount of users that are are on the forum and then only the ones that see the poll.. Oh wait, that's why they are unscientific.

For the record, I use MB because I set it up first and had success with it so why take the time to set up something else. A plus is that it is supported in WMC extenders too.

I don't spend a lot of time checking out various front ends or media players unless I have issues with the one I'm currently using. I used MediaBrowser for quite a while as it allowed me to organize all of my movies and various videos while also providing cover art and background graphics. I could never seem to get movies to show up in my Movie Library in WMC, which is why I gave MediaBrowser a shot. At the time I was using PowerDVD and TMT for playback of Blu-Ray iso's, but the results were somewhat sketchy and I could never get consistently smooth playback on every iso.

I started reading about mkv files and XBMC so I thought I'd try MakeMKV and XBMC. The results totally amazed me. Not only did I get rock solid playback of Blu-Rays but I was also able to play the HD audio tracks using the XBMC version of Eden with the HD audio patch. The added bonus was that I could also play individual M2TS and EVO files that I had ripped from HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays prior to using iso's. I never had to do anything special to get cover art and graphics to show up. They just appeared on their own. The interface for XBMC is definitely eye candy and much nicer to look at than MediaBrowser. MediaBrowser is a nice organizer for your videos, but XBMC is the complete package. There's simply no contest, IMHO.

I use XBMC with Aeon MQ4 Theme. I dont use the inbuilt xbmc metascraper, instead prefer a paid version of MetaBrowser
