Building my first HTPC this week and I hear good things about xbmc. I am wanting to know the best plugins/settings to get the best picture quality and sound out of my 3d bluray rips. Seeing the preview screens for the movies on people's screen shots looks like its an amazing product. I already have power DVD 11 for use on another computer. Is there a way to do all the cool menu stuff inside xbmc and have it open power DVD to play the videos? Im sure once I get it running it will be a better learning experience. Any cool addons that are a "must" have? I saw something about being able to watch tv from the Internet and all kinds of stuff.

You can use the advanced launcher plugin to launch the player of your choice if it's not one of the defaults.

As far as sound goes, there is a copy of Eden floating around that has a patch to allow bitstreaming. That'll give you the best sound options.

If you're a gamer I highly recommend the ROM collection browser plugin.

I'm confused too.

Have you read the pinned thread on XBMC setup? I'd start there.

IMO, the Aeon MQ3 skin is the most stable/most functional/most attractive skin available for XBMC.

I use media player classic - home cinema to play all my stored .mkv bluray rips. I find MPC to have many more options for tweaking quality, subtitles, bitstreaming, custom keys, etc etc etc than the built in XBMC player does.

I would also recommend Eventghost if you want to control your HTPC with a remote.
