I am running into some audio issues with my HTPC. When playing recordings in media center, I am only getting sound from the center channel. I am using either dolby pro logic or NEO 6. When media center starts you can hear the tune play through all the speakers. You can also hear the tone when you move up and down through the menus. When a recording with dolby digital is played, sound comes from all speakers just fine.

here is some info on my configuration:

OS: Windows 7 x64
Software: Windows Media Center
Audio/video: I3 2100 integrated video/audio via HDMI
Tuner card: Hauppauge 2250

The HTPC is conntacted to a Denon reciever with HDMI, then from the reciever to a Visio LCD with HDMI. The onboard sound card has been disabled and under sound in the control pannel the Denon reciever is selected. Media center has been set to stereo.

Any ideas?

Turn off any pass-though on your receiver.
set windows control panel to stereo
set media center to 5.1

Long story short, I am only getting sound from the center channel when using either Pro Logic II or NEO 6. Is it possible that the SD programs are not recording in stereo? Another member said that some cable companys do not send true stereo, but a dual mono signal. How can I ensure media center is sending a stereo signal?

Did a bit of troubleshooting. When playing a recording from a digital channel, with pro logic the sound comes from all the speakers. However when playing a recodring from an analog channel the sound comes from the center channel only. What could the difference between the two hat would cause the sound to not process properly?

Try using Windows Control Panel / Sounds to test what the device can play.

Which Denon AVR are you using? It could be something that needs to be configured there to matrix the mono to multi channel output.

Found this on VideoHelp forum:

Something else about dual mono ... coming out of both front channels. If your sound system is of the newer kind ... that has ... left front and right front and rear left and rear right ... and a center channel and a subwoofer channel. You wont get any sound from the back channels ... if the front left and right are not stereo. Unless you have chosen a setting on your receiver that simulates stereo from a mono signal ... and it usually sounds yucky.

Although it covers the 2012 models, not much has changed.

Batpigs Denon to English Translation
Priceless information to help you make sense of and iterperate the manual.

I have mine set to Dolby PLxII Matrix.
