Just wondering cause i'm thinking about buying a few of these but a little worried that these drives aren't the real samsung drives that got rave reviews. Seems like quite a few bad reviews of the samsung by seagate drives with clicking and premature death.

So any good or bad experiences with these new "samsung" drives would be helpful to me.

I'm a bit iffy on seagate drives, I know my personal experience with a small handful of drives is probably not representative of the thousands of drives sold but my seagate external makes some loud noises and I can't get some of my files off it while my WD external still seems to run as smooth as the day I got it.

All drives fail and I plan on making 1:1 backups but at the same time it's still costly to buy 2 drives, have 1 fail in a year, install the backup...then buy a new drive to back it up again.

IDK, but I've got a couple seagates that are doing just fine. AFAIK they consolidated operations but IDK if they changed manufacturering processes yet.. yet.

I just installed 5. Worked very well.

Said "Barracuda" at the top. Obviously a Seagate touch on the drive. I think its way too early for anyone to make any conclusion about the reliability of the drives.

The main downside is only a 1 year warranty now.

1. Samsung Green HDDs are my favorite. And I have used a lot.
2. An external drive is only as good as its case. And most of the cases are horrid.

Me too but with only a 1-year warranty now for the HD204UI (down from 3 years when they were really Samsungs) makes it well worth looking at other brands even if they are $20-30 more.
