Hi,

I'd be interested in hearing about people's experiences using some of the Mobile AMD (E-350) type nettops as extenders. I'm currently using some Tivo Premieres but we're moving into a house next month and I'm trying to figure out if there's a solution with decent WAF. I know that Ceton is coming out with a real extender but it sounds like it will be a while since the beta test doesn't start until late July.

Our plan is to use this mostly for watching TV recorded on another HTPC in the basement and occasionally some movies. I'm particularly interested in people's experiences with the following:

1. Navigating menus and whatnot. Are these mobile CPUs fast enough to move quickly through 7MC? I've found the Xbox 360 to not be responsive enough for my tastes.

2. Quality of fast forward/trick play over network/shared drives. The recorded TV will be on a HTPC connected over gigabit Ethernet. Can you fast forward/rewind quickly and responsively?

3. Deinterlacing 1080i content. I've heard that some of the mobile GPUs do poorly with 1080i content.

Thanks in advance for your feedback/advice!

You can't actually use Windows 7 as a proper extender. You can stream shared content but you would have to have a duplicated database of metadata for browsing titles etc.

I understand that you can't actually extend the 7MC interface. I'd be sharing the recorded content.

That's what you can't share unless you have an extender.

If its strictly recorded content and not live tv, and the content is not copy protected this will work.

Along with the always-just-over-the-horizon-latest-and-greatest-extender-box, the latest incarnation being the Ceton Echo.

It's always going to solve every conceivable problem whenever someday sooner or later maybe it gets released.

One has to wonder whether the entire notion is essentially dead if WMC is in fact going up in smoke.

Softsled is an xbox, not a PC next to a TV.

I should further clarify that my provider only flags premium content, of which I receive none.
