For the life of me I can't get HD audio to bitstream on my new build.

I'm using:
Asus p8z68 gen3
Intel i3 2105 H3000 graphics
W7 Pro 64
Denon 3808 AVR - fully HD audio compatible
Samsung TV - Can't remember the model off hand but could find out
Connections are all HDMI: HTPC-> AVR-> TV

I have been using Assassin's guides so I'm fairly confident that I should be able to do this. I can't get the files to play in WMC or XBMC. When I use the HD ready XBMC build I get no audio for anything including music. When I use the standard XBMC build audio plays but not HD.

Today I re-installed Windows thinking I may have messed up the drivers but I'm having the same problems.

Windows does recognize my AVR. I do get audio from other sources such as Youtube in Chrome and simple Windows sounds.

Did you install the intel management engine?

Yes. I have Intel Management Engine installed. This is really driving me nuts.

With the HD build of XBMC everything works except for the HD audio. I get "Failed to initiate audio device" and the file plays without sound. Dolby D files play fine and so does .flac.

Download and install the trial version of TMT5 to see if you can bitstream with that.

It's probably a driver problem. Use Windows Control Panel/Sounds and the tests you will find there. If the device doesn't show itself as supporting the format you need there, it won't work in any application.

The TV doesn't matter. It's what your AVR sees that does matter.

I had a similar problem a year ago.

Thanks. In the properties of my sound device (DENON-AVAMP) under encoded formats I only have DTS Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital. No mention of any HD formats. All my drivers are up to date as of today. I'm really lost.

Use a different driver. When it comes to drivers newer does not equal better.

You should also see DTS MA, Dolby True HD... Go to intel.com driver download page using IE and install one of their check latest driver utility and after check, I expected it will ask you to update the latest video driver. FYI I've the same board but not Gen3 with i5 and bitstream for a long while.

Thanks everyone. It is working now. I think it was rolling back the driver to the generic MS VGA and re-installing the Intel driver.

Now on to the fun stuff.
