XBMC announced today the HD audio stream build has been merged into the standard build of XBMC. No new official version has been released, it's only available in the nightly builds.

Awesome.

Now all they need is Live TV support for CableCARD Tuners. But for freeware I don't know if that will happen because of the $15k hurdle to get the CableLabs License.

Honestly that should be peanuts to XBMC and not a reason not to develop it. Put ads on your site. Or (gasp!) charge people $2-$5 for the product with cable card support.

I'd maybe pay $5 but with it included (for now) in WMC why?

^ Because I have constant problems switching between WMC and XBMC. Constant problems where the wrong app has focus, XBMC not listening to my remote, etc.

Because with WMC 7 slow demise, Xbmc is the future. Plus it would be coold to do all your htpc needs in 1 app.

I'm not sure I agree with either statement there.

It kind of depends on how you use TMT5. I have commercial Blu-ray discs (i.e. encrypted) that I watch via TMT5. Unless you buy something like AnyDVD, you still need an external player for Blu-rays. Even with AnyDVD, you can only play the main feature, not the menus and such.

So if you use TMT5 for Blu-ray, you should probably keep it. If you were just using it for .mkv files, it might be worth looking at the nightly builds and see how it works.

I used to rip my Blu-Rays as iso's and then strip out the extras with Clown_BD. I used TMT 5 for iso playback, but it was inconsistent and not always cooperative for smooth playback (PDVD wasn't any better in this regard). I now convert everything to mkv's using MakeMKV and playback is the best it's ever been using XBMC with the HD audio patch. If XBMC could handle recording TV like WMC then it would be the only frontend app I'd ever need. I've currently got it integrated into WMC, but the transition from XBMC back to WMC takes about 5 minutes before the PC becomes responsive to my remote and allows me to control anything.

I tried out the nightly builds from May 30th to June 1st on my HTPC with a Sandy Bridge chip and integrated GPU and they all had problems with me losing GUI sounds after playing any DTS or HD audio track. It also crapped the bed and stuttered during playback without audio when I tried to play my HD-DVD MKV rips of the Bourne movies with DD+. Some of the GUI elements were messed up too like bringing up the info screen during playback. The 10 bit support was pretty sweet though so I hope they release a stable build soon so I can run everything besides my Bluray ISO rips in one player.

Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand.

Couldn't agree more, except if you have a harmony remote, or a ps3 remote. I could show you how to integrate the two apps more seamlessly.

I use a Harmony One configured for use with WMC and it works fine with XBMC with no extra tweaking. I can navigate through all of the menus and control the transport functions during playback so it does everything I need it to. I also use a Lenovo 5902 keyboard/trackball remote for entering any text strings. Even when I exit WMC and run XBMC from my desktop it takes quite a while before it releases control of the PC and allows me to start up WMC. If there's a way to speed this up I'd appreciate knowing about it.
