I'm using Shark007 to play MKVs (DVD and BD rips) in Windows Media Center. I know a lot of users here prefer to launch an external player (like MPC-HC) through a plug-in (like MB) to achieve WMC integration, but I'm striving to keep everything simple.

So far, Shark007 does exactly that. It's amazing how simple it is. All of my MKVs play in WMC from the native Movie Library.

But I cannot for the life of me get subtitles to display properly. If open an MKV in Graphstudio, subtitles display as expected using DirectVobSub (but for some strange reason, it opens 4 instances of the program). However, in WMC DirectVobSub never opens and subtitles are not displayed.

This is using Lav Video. I can get subtitles to show if I use FFDShow, but I'm trying to use Lav (this seems to be the latest and greatest). I even tried uninstalling Shark, downloading Lav and DirectVobSub -- same thing.

Any ideas? Suggestions to try? Things to test?

EDIT: subs are internal, ripped from the disc by me using MakeMKV (I even used MKVMerge to edit the flags -- no effect).

Alternatively, xbmc will handle subs with its built in player.

I guess you missed the title of this thread.

I dont see where the poster asked for suggestions of alternate players.

you must have also failed to read the 1st post. This is using Lav Video
He states can get them to work with ffdshow but prefers to use LAV.
So getting them to work wasnt a problem. Does LAV work in xbmc? I doubt it.

Hey Shark,

It worked perfectly for MKVs with AVC video -- DirectVobSub launched and subtitles worked as expected.

However, MKVs with VC-1 failed to launch DirectVobSub.

Does Lav not play nice with VC-1? I notice in your preferred settings that VC-1 uses FFDShow. I even think in Lav's default settings (stand alone, apart from Shark007) that VC-1 is left unticked -- I could be wrong on that though.

I currently worked specifically on LAV + AVC + Subs for the 366 release..
I'll look into supporting LAV + VC1 + Subs before my next release.
