Also includes all subtitles from your preferred language, and as mfusick mentions, you can configure your player to show only the forced subs. The only time you have to manually intervene is to set a subtitle as forced on foreign language films, so I rip those manually with makemkv.

It's worked great on a handful of titles I've tried, except for Avatar, which for some reason the Na'vi subtitles now show up in the upper left portion of the screen. It has different subs though since they are a separate video stream I believe...

Have you tried Hunger Games yet?

The Hunger Games is one our reference testing discs for Java BD playlist obfuscation (along with several other discs like The Expendables 2, Safe and You're Next).

The Hunger Games Blu-Ray not only has playlist obfuscation but the identified 'correct' playlist is really only an alias for the 'true' playlist. This may be why other implementations have difficulty with this disc.

MaCE players can identify discs with this characteristic and successfully processes the true Main Movie playlist.

When I ripped hunger games the first time it seems like the movie was all out of order. I did it again months later and it worked ok. Not sure why.. but it happened.

This is a very nice feature to have. Unfortunately, from what I understand it is only available in their 'home and essentials server' edition, which requires a server OS.

True. It also requires $100 worth of points.

There is a way to automatically rip the main movie of a Blu-Ray (or DVD for that matter). Unfortunately, it's not free. It requires AnyDVD HD and MakeMKV.

Using these two software packages and our in house custom code, our MaCE players do one-click backup, allowing you to select 'Entire Disc' or just 'Main Movie'. For main movie backups, no re-muxing or playlist browsing is required. The correct playlist is automatically identified without user intervention and backed up.

MaCE players come with AnyDVD HD and MakeMKV pre-installed.

This is only available with your hardware, and not something we could download and install on another HTPC, correct?

And how do you store your rips? I have a WHS 2011 that runs FlexRaid, sickbeard, sabnzbd, Plex, MyMovies, and any other 24/7 app...so it's not really an additional cost (except for the $100 required for enough points to run the MyMovies video converter)

I've only got the 1,250 point level, but clicked the trial button to get 2,500 points added for three weeks. The MKV converter works pretty good, but is definitely still in beta. It grabs all primary language feeds with no option to simply grab the HD track. It also grabs every subtitle track in the selected language as well, not that big of a deal. The issue that I had was that when the movie fails to convert in your queue your only choice is to retry or delete. At that point I have to fire up the "manual" tools.

Over the weekend I made it through pretty much all my files. My goal was to get any .iso and video_ts converted for Plex compatibility.

Did you rip it with makeMKV? What version if yes.

Hello DfKimbro,

As you know, AnyDVD HD and MakeMKV are available to the public and are hardware independent and should work fine on whatever hardware you have. There is nothing special about our hardware (except we've tested many configurations and found what works best together).

The key to 'one-click' main movie backup convenience is software, in conjunction with AnyDVD HD and MakeMKV, which finds and backs up your desired movie or files. For us, this is accomplished with our custom OHMS software and optionally, our ORCA smartphone remote app.

I've been toying with the idea of adapting a standalone app based on our OHMS software, able to run on any PC with AnyDV HD and MakeMKV and perhaps eac3To, to accomplish 'one-click' back-up convenience. I would make this app available free to the community. Unfortunately I haven't the time at the moment and such an endeavor would require management approval.

Thanks for the response. A standalone would be nice even if it weren't free, but I doubt it would be profitable for Ovation.

MeediOS can do this automagically as well without pressing a key, just insert the disc. Full disc as an ISO, main movie as an MKV, you decide. It will also automatically identify the disc, create the folder and put where you store your movies.

I may be mistaken, but this capability is not native to MeediOS and requires a plugin and/or 3rd party software (like AnyDVD HD, MakeMKV, etc.) to perform decryption. Correct?

That is correct no decryption is performed.

Have you encountered, or, rather, checked into any legal issues having AnyDVD and MakeMKV pre-installed?

If you can do that for the main movie, does MaCE store and play it back as an ISO, with menu functionality or are the titles saved individually?--If the later, does the software pull in the names for the titles?

Hello Javanpohl,

Yes, but a discussion of that is beyond the scope of this thread.

Thanks

When backing-up a movie with a MaCE, you are presented with a dialog that asks you to back-up "entire disc" or "main movie" only.

If "entire disc" is selected, the disc is backed up in its entirety and placed in its own folder. The folder's name is the movie's title. This preserves all menus and extras.

If "movie only" is selected, the MaCE finds the main movie title and backs it up as an MKV file. This MKV file is also stored in its own folder. The MKV file contains the main movie, chapter breaks, all applicable audio tracks and all applicable subs. No extras, no trailers, no director's commentaries. An MKV file can be played back on virtually any software player and unlike ISO, does not require any mounting.
