I have been ripping my DVD collection for use with my HTPC for some time now and storing them on my Home Server. The HTPC is a HP Digital Entertainment Center z558 (highly upgraded) and it runs Windows 7 Ultimate.
I want to use Windows Media Center and the Movies Library to watch/browse my media.
To this point, I've ripped my movies using DVD Shrink doing a full backup (extras, subtitles, etc) - and realize this really isn't that practical space wise....so I'm looking for a way to do this better. I have been tinkering with Handbrake, which seems very capable - but once I converted the movies to MP4, M4V or MKV formats, they no longer showed up in the Movies Library. I could get them to play in WMP and even in Media Center - but they simply won't show up where I want them. The folders with Audio_TS and Video_TS work great....
I've tried Media Center Master to get the folder.jpg files and xml data - but that has made no difference. I can get them into the Videos folder - but not the Movie Library - which is where I want them.
I would appreciate any assistance in getting this to work - and am open to any guidance or suggestions on the best way to convert/best settings to use.
I've got about 500 DVDs....so keeping size reasonable while maintaining quality is essential (to most people, I guess..not just me. LOL).
So far I've got about 350 ripped...at an average of about 6gb each.
How do you rip your media - and how do I get them to show up in the Movie Library in MCE?
Thanks for any assistance....
