I just put a couple images up at the other thread.

I realize the HTPC is a cheap build, but just about everything out there said the G620 integrated graphics is all you need. So it is a little disappointing to see these results.

How much of a factor in getting proper video is the player (MPC-HC, WMP, etc) vs the hardware (AMD, G620, etc)? IOW just because MPC-HC indicates certain frame rates, will these necessarily be the same when using WMC for playback on the same PC?

The main function of my HTPC is an OTA DVR using WMC. Based on that, & not using MadVR or MPC-HC, is the GT 430 still the way to go?

MSI R6450-MD1GD3/LP Radeon HD 6450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card $14.99

Not perfect and not MAD-VR level but it might improve for $15

I saw that & looked at the reviews. The 1 & 2 egg reviews are a concern. That's 4 out of 18 reviews.

I only put MPC-HC on the HTPC just in case I wanted to watch anything from the desktop PC, which isn't a whole lot. The HTPC's main use is an OTA DVR. I just don't know how watching a DVD using MPC-HC translates into watching an OTA recording using WMC.

I briefly looked at some 29.97 fps content on the HTPC using MPC-HC and & did not seem as erratic as the 23.976 material, but it was nowhere near perfect either. OTOH everything seems to look pretty good to me when I watch it.

I assume you're not using MadVR with MPC-HC. 29.97fps content using that with iGPU is noticably jerky.

Do you mean 29.97 fps is jerky with iGPU and MPC-HC or using both MadVR & MPC-HC? From your experience does that mean playing 29.97 fps content is better using WMC? Or do you think a graphic card should still be used with 29.97 fps material?

Correct, I am not using MadVR. I only installed MPC-HC to have the ability to look at some miscellaneous videos on the other PC if I wanted to. IOW just a convenience for a what-if situation.

Otherwise 99.99% of the time the HTPC is used as an OTA DVR. Which of course records & plays either 720p60 or 1080i30 mpeg video, and this is done using WMC7. I don't plan to keep hitting ctrl+j to check things because WMC will be used most of the time. Right now I'm playing around with it because it's a new toy & I like to experiment & learn what's going on.

I should probably start a new thread such as WMC vs MPC-HC vs whatever.

It is only jerky using MadVR because it is more of a hardware decoder than MPC-HC internal filters. In your set-up you will be fine.

I would not look to much into new egg reviews.

How could it possible not work ??

lol.

I guess I just don't understand the thinking.

The new egg reviews for your motherboard a pretty terrible too.

Does not mean that for the $25 you paid for it - it was not a good deal or value. And it works. Sure not as well as an ASUS but.. then again it costs less.

I would not fear buying an MSI branded 6450 Radeon video card for $14.99.

I thought $25 for a mobo was an exceptionally low price. I agree it's not the best, but it is a component that is needed.

The $15 video card is a good price, but I've seen similar prices pop up from time to time. I just don't know which "cheap" card gives the most bang for the buck. And it is a component that is not critically needed. And may not be needed at all when playing back OTA recordings, which is what I'm trying to verify. I have to convert some 720p60 and 1080i30 OTA video from WMC7's format to something that MPC-HC can play.
