I am looking for back up for personal files. Mostly pictures and stuff. Wife has 200+ GB of pictures.

Anyone know a good cheap method?

Currently I have them on my server (FLEXRAID) plus and external just in case. Looking for a solution that would allow them all to be backed up on cloud but it seems hard or expensive.

Thoughts?

I use it locally. My son uses it on the cloud. I haven't had any problems except the time I tried to work with the HTPC remotely to do a back up and now it isn't working on the HTPC. I need to actually get into that machine and do some work on Crashplan there to get it going again. I used it for a long time using an external drive before that too. I've never had to do a restore from it but I haven't heard/read any problems with doing that but then again I haven't looked either. I'm sure there's some bloke on some forum complaining somewhere!

NOTE: I looked at the site and it looks affordable but it does not clearly explain it out. Wondering from user if it's as good as it looks or it has a problem I don't see yet.

If you want to be cheap, here is a solution - install the software on a second machine at a separate location (e.g., friend, in-laws, etc.). There is no charge to backup to another computer. I maintain a backup of ~100GB in this manner using CrashPlan. To speed up the initial transfer, I temporarily put the two machines on the same LAN. Once the transfer was complete, I moved the machines to their permanent locations. Now, any updates (e.g., photos, documents, etc.) are backed up easily and quickly since the total size is not that large on a daily basis.

Do you pay for cloud storage?

I pay for Crashplan, yes. After you set your folders up on your server it "set it and forget it". The files get automatically uploaded to Crashplan when they are changed or added to.

BTW we are working on a Crashplan guide. Should be done soon.
