I recently built a new PC and decided to move it into the living room to give the HTPC scene a shot. However, when connected to my Denon 591 AVR my PC beeps five times during post. However, It still boots into windows after the five beeps. I tried it without being connected to my AVR and it post just fine without the beeps.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

I have the following mobo and cpu

ASRock H77 Pro4-M

I guess if I turn on the Pc first and wait till it boots then turn on the avr I wont have this issue. Still curious if its normal for this to happen or not

Why don't you try updating your BIOS to see if that helps it resolve it. Its possible that its just a bug in the BIOS.

http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?cat=BIOS

8/29/2012
v1.40
1. Update CPU code.
2. Improve Internet Flash function.
3. Improve discrete VGA card vBIOS compatibility.
4. Support write OA 3.0 key by afudos/afuwin.

I have the same issue with the same board, different AVR though (sony str-dh800). In addition to the beeps I get corrupted picture in UEFI (single screen becomes 4times the size, so I need to scroll around), but in windows it's normal and everything works as it should. Apparently the AVR makes the board believe there is no video card connected...

The beeps explanation (from asrock motehrboard FAQ a+page):
Condition Beeps Code Debug Code
Normal 1 short beep after POST With goodnight LED enabled, debug code will disappear after the beep.
Bad CPU No beep No debug code
Bad memory No beep 45
Without memory 3 long beeps 53
Without CPU No beep(No Power) No debug code
Without VGA card 5 long beeps Beeps at”d6”, then show "0d"

I already replaced my first one because in addition to the beeps I got no picture after some time (with legacy gpu - HD7750 and integrated, tested directly and through AVR). I'll contact asrock support about it...

Yo,

Have had the same problem. I setup my htpc Asrock H77 Pro-4M with and I3 3225 and no problems, when I attached it today to my Onkyo 3008 everything went fine until suddenly it started to beep 5 times on startup allthough booting up perfectly!
Any1 have a solution?
Also have an overscan problem in 1080x1920 in windows which I don't know how to solve, solved it in XBMC with a recalibration but don't know an answer for WIN7

thanks

I contacted asrock support, but they didn't reply...
I switched AVR after I wrote the above post for a onkyo TX-NR818 and mothrboard doesn't beep anymore.
For overscan there should be a setting in graphics driver control panel.

I can adjust in garphics control panel by adding underscan but I loose resolution so it's not 1080x1920 anymore! I want 1:1!
Also my mobo only beeps when my Onkyo 30008 is on, not when it's off so I boot my HTPC first!

Well I use HD7750 graphics card and I have to set it at 0 to get the full picture, but even if not set to that the resolution was the same, just the picture was smaller than full size and blurry.
I got beeps in either case, but my htpc is on 24/7 so it wasn't too often that I had to listen to the beeps. But I am glad it's working for you.

Hello guys, first time on this forum. Just wondering if anyone has found a solution or has an update on this.

I have a new Asrock H77M for an HTPC, whenever I boot if the HDMI cable is connected to the TV i get the 5 beeps. Using onboard video, intel i3 3220.

If I have both HDMI and RGB cable connected, no beeps. If I turn it on with no cable at all connected, also no beeps.

Everything seems to be working fine regardless of the beeps. At first I thought maybe not enough power, startup usually pushes the limit, but that doesn't explain the no beeps when both cables are in...

Running newest bios for this board (1.30).

Thanks,
RK

Are your 5 beeps all same lenght and same pause lenght in between
Check this site for explanation, you need to know your bios makebeforehand (ami, award, phoenix, etc)

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

If need be, you can boot in verbose mode, something you need to activate (google-it)
You will get a detailed log of your boot process

My setup:
TV: Samsung plasma 59" pn59d550, DVR: Cisco 8642HD, HTPC: Acer Aspire E1-570,
Peachtree audio DAC-iT, Logitech Harmony 650 remote, Logitech MediaBoard Pro Bluetooth k/b
Receiver: Harman Kardon HK 3490, Speakers: Mission m34i + Mission MS10 sub, Nexus 7 2nd gen

The issue was fixed (at least in my case) with bios 1.70.
