The new A10-5800K will be priced at $130. I just paid $220 for an i5-3570k. Mistake?

The sweet spot for HTPC is going to be the quad-core A8-5500 for $109 in my opinion. Personally I don't think its easy to justify a core i5 for HTPC regardless, if going intel high end HTPC is core i3 with HD4000 graphics. Have to wait and see it might be that even the A4-5300 dual-core is $59.60 will handle 1080p60, and madvr in which case it will be the ultimate HTPC deal, it for sure will hand blu ray 3D and HD hulu/netflix. I might be building a new HTPC just because.

There's always going to be something new around the corner. The i5-3570K is a great chip. I am sure the A10-5700 will be too. They'll all play movies. It's all good.

I remember when some on this very site claimed that the Llano was the "perfect" HTPC platform.

Let's just say that we should wait for the reviews from both Intel and AMD. I am not convinced at all that an improved iGPU benchmark from either vendor is going to matter even 1 bit for HD playback yet some of you continue to rant and rave about this being a significant factor for most/all users.

Drivers and ease of use are much more important to me. Is Trinity finally going to act as an exterminator to extinguish AMD's bugs?

Oh boy. Even the reviewers comment on them now. And there are quite a few threads here at AVS as well. Consider yourself lucky.

Maybe there just are not any bugs for people who do not twist their HTPCs into unrecognizable contortions? Codec Packs, I am looking directly at you...

+1. Always use codec packs as an absolute last resort. I've never used them, and have never had a problem playing back anything.

Maybe all the bugs are due to people doing lots of bad things to their PCs and not really the fault of the ATI drivers.

I don't think it's a mistake. Trinity is competetive with Ivy Bridge in some ways, inferior in others. Just about any CPU is good enough for HTPC, it really all comes down to the software.

Here's a old review of mobile Trinity:

Well except that there are some very knowledgeable AVS people (and reviewers) that have been bitten by some of the driver bug for HTPC use.
