Hello,
My Radeon HD 5450 isn't accelerating flash videos. DXVA works fine in MPC-HC though. Have an ancient Athlon 64 3700+ so the CPU can't really handle decoding on it's own.

Using catalyst 12.8, and DXVAChecker indicates ModeH264_VLD_NoFGT_Flash is supported.

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Ok, I uninstalled Flash for IE, Flash for FF, and chrome altogether (apparently Chrome has flash built in), restarted and reinstalled. Hardware acceleration was already enabled for all 3 flash players.

IE and FF are now using DXVA (used about 80% CPU, and the DXVAChecker trace log showed DXVA activity).

Chrome is still not using DXVA and is unwatchable with a 1080p youtube test video.

IE using Flash 11,4,402,265
FF using Flash 11,4,402,265
Chrome using Flash 11,3,31,232

Would like to get chrome working as it's my primary browser.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

That worked. Had to expand the flash choices and disable the chrome specific version.

I'm seeing 60-97% usage now with DXVA and flash. Is that normal?

Using MPC-HC i'm seeing ~7% for 1080p videos.

Can anyone confirm if that is normal or not?

There may not be a lot of people still using that ancient cpu. It's bottlenecking your GPU. Time for an upgrade.

Flash still relies more on CPU the GPU. So even with the 5450 it won't help you much. If your motherboard supports a Dual Core CPU, you should upgrade.

Ok, I found a socket 939 X2 4200+ for ~$26 on ebay. Gonna try that out as it's fairly cheap.

If i need to upgrade the CPU, I'll need a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. Would my power supply still work? It's a Seasonic S12-380 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151022). Sorry for the newb questions, haven't kept up with hardware since 2005 when I built this machine.
