Don't know much about these, I'd be careful. Even Web browsing is slow on low end tablets. At a minimum, make sure you get a capacitive touch screen. Resistive screens are junk.

Probably not worth it. Will likely have a terrible screen, abysmal battery life, sluggish performance, and just feel really cheap. Save up and get a Nexus 7 for $200.

Looks like you are on the other side of the pond from me, but I would also recommend spending a little more and getting something decent. The Xoom tablets seem to be in a sweet spot right now. Here is what I just bought

The cheap eBay tablets has good spec on paper. But they usually have terrible screen. Some even are 800x480 and/or resistive screens. And they are usually very thick and has poor battery life. There are a few good ones which are of acceptable quality but you have to frequent xda-developers or similar forums to know the ones. For your time, it is best to stick to known brands.

Way to bargain shop there!

You got a smoking deal on that. If I didnt already have a
toshiba tablet I'd be all over one of those for that price.

I haven't any experience with those.

I would think about what you really want in a tablet. Do you have and use a smartphone? Most likely, you're use it similarily, but without the phone call; maybe if you have VOIP service.

I have a ASUS TF700T Infinity Pad. I have played around with the Nexus 7. The TF700T is not cheap, so I won't suggest it. But I would agree with the Nexus 7. For price, it's really good. The only thing I didn't like about it, and it's just preference, no SDHC micro card slot. because of the smaller memory it comes with it. For web browsing, it's got plenty.

Although, the new amazon tablets look pretty interesting too, especially once they get rooted and people figure out how to get the full Android system on there.

Or just get a Nexus 7. Why buy something and hope you can use it later on when you can just have it up front? The only reason why I would tell someone to go the Kindle Fire route is if they absolutely didn't want to use it for anything other then Amazon-related activities.

I'm going to throw some love out there for my BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM's woes have largely overshadowed what is a strong little tablet. Sales make them downright cheap, and the ability to run Android Apps means there are a lot of good options for syncing with your HTPC.

Playbook is garbage, no apps and it's slow.

Go for the Nexus 7.

While I appreciate your eloquent response, it is incorrect. The app argument is no longer valid when you can use virtually any Android app, and even when that was a valid gripe, the performance of the PlayBook was one thing that was always held as a strong point.

And from the original post, it sounds like the PlayBook would posters needs quite well. Not to mention the price is fantastic.

I only mention the Kindle Fire since they're releasing cheap larger tablet. And it's their specs, on paper, are a little better.

Just wondering how the price is fantastic? The Playbook seems to be selling at $200 which is the same price as a new 8GB Nexus 7 and includes $25 play credit. Also, what apps does the Playbook has that is aimed toward HTPC?

I am actually a little interested in the Playbook because I am looking for a tablet that can tether over bluetooth DUN. But the 1+ years old Playbook is just looking less appealing by the day.

Just wanted to thank you for posting this sweet deal! I have one on order. After reading the reviews, I figured it was a no-brainer. It should be perfect for my wife, all she does is email and Spider solitaire.
