That is a good set up but again I don't think you need IB. SB is fine and will save you $50 as they are on sale right now. It used to be 4GB RAM but now 8GB costs like $5 more or might even be less on sale. That is a spendy case but it also is a nice case. I haven't built with it but others like it and it looks like any other component in your system.

I often refer to this site: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_htpc.

Aussie site, so prices are in Aussie dollars, but the products are up-to-date. For Australia at least...

The build should work with the Ceton Echo, can't see why it shouldn't.

However none of those are really dedicated to HTPC. Even the HTPC section at review sites like Anandtech aren't always relevant or necessarily geared at a pure HTPC.

Okay. Thanks.

Is there anything viable between the 540 and the i3 to pair up with that mobo?

There are the Pentiums but they are diminishing returns. If a G540 is not sufficient, then a Pentium won't be much better. I'd say get the G540, its a grunty dual core. Otherwise the Pentium G840 is the next meaningful step up:

I updated my guides over the past couple of days. There are quite a few Llano and Clarkdale era motherboards that are discontinued but there are really no real substitutes as these are now 1-2 years old (at least) which is an eternity in the PC world and they are being phased out by their manufacturers for more modern era motherboards with Trinity and Ivy Bridge.

I will keep them there until I eventually pull off Clarkdale and Llano completely just like I did with Zacate. There comes a time when something just can no longer be recommended (see Atom as well as an example).

BTW I updated a few things and added a completely new Trinity section.

These are the most popular barebones I've been building lately from most to least expensive:

i3-3225
ASUS P8H77-I (or Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI if you need that)
Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 4GB or 8GB

A6-3500
ASRock A75M-ITX
Kingston HyperX DDR3-1866 4GB or 8GB

G540
Gigabyte H61N-USB3
Kingston ValueRAM DDR3-1333 4GB

All these are available either at Amazon.com or Newegg.com or both. They go into the Realan E-i5 and E-i7 cases. People put their own SSDs and/or slot-in blu-ray drives in them.

Some CPU deals I've had my eyes on:
http://www.directron.com/bx80623g860.html (Directron - great store) G860 retail
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200785191090 (aka Superbiiz - another great store) G540 OEM (I don't need the fan)

Any recommendations as far as 120mm fans go that'd work for that build?

Nexus (not Noctua) are my go to for best 120mm fan for the money.

There's a 20% off coupon code for fans at newegg right now. I'd share mine but I'm going to use it. Maybe somebody else will share..

Hmmm. I used to get Newegg emails, but they don't seem to even show up in my spam anymore.

This is a good site for coupons:

http://www.retailmenot.com/view/newegg.com

You can sometimes find gems.

One thing about the PSU - the 380B only has 4 SATA plugs, the 430B has 6, so if you'll be connecting a stack of drivers, the 430 is a better option. Otherwise, as I said, rock solid.

Yes, that one. Up to you though. If you need more plugs in the future, you'll need adapters if you get the 380B.

Eh. The price isn't prohibitive at all. I'll just go with that one.
