So I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my HTPC purchase. My primary use for this is going to be DVR duty as well as playing 1080p bluray movies ripped to the HDD. The only gaming I'll be doing on this is old school emulators; I already have a gaming PC. Here's what I'm looking at:
1. Am I correct in thinking the memory will run DDR3 1600 with this setup? I was going to go with the Pentium G850 and run DDR3 1333 RAM, but figured for $30 more I might as well move up to an Ivy Bridge processor for the 1600. Let me know if I'm missing something.
2. Will the Ripjaw memory fit in this case or should I play it safe and go with a different style? (I dont really care what the RAM looks like, I just wanted to go with something that has a good reputation)
I was going to go with something along the lines of the g540 (was originally going to go with a g620) but then realized the g620 (as well as the 540) only support 1066 memory according to Intel's website. So once I get a processor that supports 1333 (the g850) its only $30 more for the Ivy Bridge. That's assuming I am correct on my understanding of the 1066-only support. http://ark.intel.com/products/53416/Intel-Celeron-Processor-G540-2M-Cache-2_50-GHz
