I'm using Windows 7 WMC to record TWC HD TV. I'm concerned about preserving the copy protected shows & if they are still watchable after a conversion from a basic disk to a dynamic disk in order to setup a mirror (RAID 1). Or, would an alternative type of software RAID be a better choice for HTPC's? Other than preserving the shows, I'm mostly concerned about recovery time from a bad disk when using RAID. With a mirror there's no down time or slow down.
Thanks.

a little more info.
currently recording copy protected HDTV to a 1tb drive. just acquired a 3TB.
want to mirror the 1TB right now using the 3TB (I know a waist of space for a while).
I will have to change over my basic 1tb drive to a dynamic drive to do this.
when I get another 3tb, I will break the mirror. Use the 3TB (dynamic) drive. Increase the partition size to use the whole disk. Then mirror it using the 2nd 3TB drive.
Is this all feasible while still keeping playability of the copy protected TV shows from the original 1TB drive?

2nd question.
If I change to record TV to a new drive in WMC, will I still be able to play the copy protected stuff on the old drive? will I still see it in my Recorded TV list?

thanks again

The answer to your second question is yes, and I would say the answer to your first question is "you should be fine."

I move copy protected TV shows to a home server and it preserves the fact that the recording is only available to watch on the original recording HTPC.

So it seems the encryption key is embedded in the WTV file and it does not matter where it is located or what type of drive it is on.

Puwaha: ...or how many times it's copied from 1 drive to another? As long as it's watched on the original HTPC.

Correct Ring30. It doesn't matter where the file is located it can only be played on the recording HTPC and and extenders connected to that pc.
