so i have an annoying issue
if i seek MKVs too many times(depending on each file i guess, from 2GB x264s with AC3 to 40GB AVC/VC1/etc with DTSHD/TRUEHD/DTS/AC3) it freezes the player (mpc-hc,mpc-be,xbmc, but not VLC) after 2-20 seeks/chapter changes/clicking randomly on the seek bar... i can let it wait for 10-30 seconds sometimes it starts playing again...
tried switching the file(s) to other HDDs/SSDs didnt help, tried changing audio out to speakers not spdif without help... any other ideas?

Can you elaborate on your HTPC set up hardware and if these are over a network or local HDD?

Try LAV. You could use the Shark007 installer set to recommended settings. There's an installation guide for this on his website that is the same guide that is on assassin's website.

Can you re-rip the mkv from the original disc?

What did you use to rip this content to mkv?

Have you tried playing it with something else like WMC or WMP?

Can you try a different mkv?

omg im gonna shoot this computer, what the heck does it want???
im still having this issue, if played in XBMC/MPC and skip forward a few times, it would freeze for a 5-10 seconds, mostly on large files 15GB or more
i got a new receiver and it didnt help either (i thought it was because maybe not able to sync audio optical with hdmi vid), but its still doing it with a-v passing thru hdmi to receiver...
im beginning to think its some mobo sata issue ... these files play fine on a lower spec laptop, but they would freeze if played over network on same laptop
although copying files gives me no errors, and HDD diagnostics have no errors... this is on 3 different HDDs

well. kind of shot it. got a new mobo z87, mem, cpu ... and ... new 4TB HDD(same manuf-seagate)

it does the same ... seek a large video file 2-3 times and bam, freezes... tried same file on a SSD and bam, no freeze this time. ... so maybe some kind of random seek limitation of these large HDDs ? NCQ issue on the drive ? is defragmentation possible cause?

I don't have this experience at all. I use ff/rw a lot during mkv playback (usually while watching tv shows with wife). What do you mean for seek?

Are you using a remote or keyboard? Do you mean 5 / 15 second skips ( -> or arrow key)? Or just the simple "F" or >> key for fast forward in XBMC? Chapter skips with the >>| remote button or ctrl+shift+f? Typing a specific numeric time and pressing "play" to skip to that point of the video?

FYI - just did all of these 3 times a piece without a hitch during playback of a Tron Legacy mkv. I cannot reproduce the error

ok ok hold on, i, i , i think its working now, no freezzing !

either 1 of 2 things or a combination under the full moon... installed an old 3tb drive ... and also installed the Intel Rapid Storage software (no changes made in it, just installed)...

edit: think this Intel Rapid Storage is also doing some cache thing, 2G file transfer SSD-> HDD 3 sec ... i dont think so, lol.
