I've bee using 7MC + Media Browser for my front end d for a while now and it works well enough. However, I am switching to Windows 8. I was wondering if there's any 3rd party software out there that's similar in terms of ease of use? I tried XBMC, but I didn't really take to it.

If you need live TV and DVR then you should probably stick with WMC.

If not, XBMC is a great option. What didn't you like about it? There's also Plex and MediaPortal, which are based on XBMC. JRiver is an option that has great video and sound options but is a bit lacking in the interface department.

I recommend http://www.nextpvr.com

But if you have a CableCard tuner (HDHR Prime, Ceton) and a lot of copy protected content, your only option is WMC.
