The new version of XBMC (v12) has just been released but wait a bit before you all rush to download it as the servers are very slow at the moment.

I didn't add links as I expect you all know where to get XBMC from, plus the site is very slow due to the number of downloads so the links wouldn't have worked anyway, or at best been excruciatingly slow.

I have just upgraded from Frodo RC3 without a hitch. Upgrading from Eden has also gone without issues however, I use Aeon Nox skin and when that updates to v4 the media artwork takes ages to update.

it says that it has support for DTS-MA and TrueHD, and it also says that it has support for Raspberry Pi. So does that mean that those two formats work on the Pi? I had been under the impression that they did not.

Any info on how to integrate MPC-HC, LAV or madVR filters with this new version of XBMC?

I'd love to be using this software for its interface and support, but the video player blows. That's the most important part!

Thanks for any info. In the meantime I'm going to be investigating a jriver solution (http://www.jriver.com/video.html)

There were definitely solutions for 11.0. I don't know about 12.0. The video player hardly "blows" though. It's not as good as MadVR, but will be more than sufficient for 99% of people.

Control. You can specify your own splitter, decoder, renderer, etc.

Go to the xbmc wiki and check out external player.

I'm one of those nuts who believe the Madvr makes a difference and that the audio is better with Lav+reclock (though maybe not the case anymore with the audio).

Also yea control.

But I do love the XBMC interface and how certain skins can put overlays with cool info and art.

I used to be one of those MPC-HC + Madvr +Lav nuts but over time my eyesight is not as good as it used to be (I can't tell the difference anymore even on my 82" TV) so I traded for the ease of use and the abilty to "control everything with a remote" of XBMC plus everything else that it brings to the table.

There is a build out there that lets you fine tune these things within the default player, Eduard_K's dsplayer-xbmc http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=DSPlayer

Also, the feature freeze was back in November, so nothing newer than the things I've been swooning about here for the past couple months smile.gif

The video player looked amazing on 12.0 to me.

Jriver or mpcHc with all the extras.

I'd imagine something along lines of MADVR + reclock and/or SVP

Personally I value a slick front end over absolute playback quality

See you've been at the weed again smile.gif - slick front end and jriver just don't sit well together. It is certainly a far superior playback application, but it can't hold a candle to xbmc in the slick/eye candy stakes, if that's what you mean.

It provides the same quality as MPC-HC with LAV filters and EVR (not MadVR) . MadVR is what i would call "ultimate" , not "above average". MadVR does kick the crap out of anything else when it comes to upscaling capabilities smile.gif

I have yet to get my HTPC set up, but was just wondering about seamless branching. How would XBMC play back a seamless branching blu-ray ISO without a full BD menu?

Thanks
