I just added my first AMD/ATI video card. I have it connected to a 2009 model Panasonic S1 Plasma via a DVI--->HDMI cable.

The first thing I noticed was the extreme brightness of the default color settings - both for desktop and video. Not only visually but audibly - it was causing a very loud buzz on my tv set.

I tried a number of different settings for brightness, contrast, and gamma. Ultimately I get something that is too dark in dark scenes or dark web pages and too bright in light scenes and on my desktop. Nothing I seem to do is giving me a "normal" baseline to work from.

I have Digital Video Essentials, but I don't know how to use it to get a video card to output a "normal" range of brightness and contrast so I can use it on my tv.

Any tips for setting the colors, both for video and for desktop usage?
