This looks to be mostly for smart phones and internet streaming. I suppose this may force me to update my phone sooner than later but that said I hardly stream anything on my phone except my own content via plex. Maybe this higher efficacy codec will change that as streaming is spotty sometime, especially on the go.

I think that this will take a bit longer for CableTV content as it will be a cost to the CableCos to upgrade equipment. When it does come I wll upgrade my graphics card.
