How is it different than the $129 Foxconn barebones on newegg?

6 TV's in the house on FiOS and we only pay $4.99/month to connect them all!!! Power to the CableCard and WMC7!!!

One hundred bucks different.

I guess you get a HD worth about $70 retail and a remote worth $10 so for $20 somebody has installed ELEC and Frodo for you.

It has an ATSC tuner and s/pdif. The foxconn is normally 179.99 also. The remote and tuner being built in is worth a small premium. Not my cup of tea though since it is Atom based.

It is probably a decent price considering what you get but it would be nice if they had a Celeron or Core upgrade option.

I'd be surprised if a celeron or higher upgrade is necessary if they, in fact, achieved HW acceleration from the Radeon HD 5430 mobile. The two questions in my mind are
  1. OE 3 isn't beyond RC, did they develop with them directly?
  2. ATI is historically not awesome for linux support, so did OE grab some working drivers for it?

I know they have fusion builds, but I've never tried an intel setup with an ati card

I've setup a core 2 with an nvidia card, and it worked great on the generic build

Also, looks kind of nice (I've always liked the PS3 look)

http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/living/entertainment-center/447/mc001-n.html?c=2296 $129

This is a good deal in my opinion if shipping isn't too bad.

$100 cheaper just taking out the dvd drive and hdd.

That makes more sense

I'd see these as "client" HTPCs or extenders. I'm not in the market for these, but if I were I'd wait and see how the xios ds handles 1080p in the next couple months. Or wait until they upgrade to a newer pivos model (Maybe with DLNA DTCP-IP biggrin.gif ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815645003

The use of the prev. gen Atom and AMD GPU puzzles me a bit for an OpenELEC build. I don't think they were considering HD audio support like if they'd use a GT610M.

Here's my take on a D2500/GT610 barebones for OpenELEC:

With slot for optical drive:

Without optical drive slot:
(also comes with same remote/receiver)

I was looking to buy that MC001-XBMC(US) product from Arctic but I see they are sold out. I want a fanless device for OpenElec with IR capability, remote, etc. What is the next best option?

Building your own is the best option.

Well, answered that http://openelec.tv/news/21-partners/82-arctic-announces-passive-cooled-systems-with-openelec-installed

I don't believe they are running beyond the current rc4, but the full info isn't divulged. Arctic specific builds added to the list from now on smile.gif Wonder if that will work on a pieced together old intel box with a radeon card.
