Hail, Ye Home Theatre Gads! tongue.gif

I (really, truly) need an external (preferably "portable" but this isn't absolutely critical like most of the other criteria to come) Blu-ray writer for the PC that can pull duty as a traditional standalone player.

Working with a PC, it should:

1) Read/playback all CD-rewritable formats -- this is a must
2) Preferably write/burn, too, though this actually isn't critical
3) Use USB 3.0, though not absolutely necessary (USB 2.0 is fine)
4) Offer 3-D capabilities, though again not absolutely necessary

Working as a standalone, it should:

1) Plug into an electrical outlet (and not simply run another USB cable like external PC drives)
2) Up-convert standard-definition DVDs (1080p best but will settle for 720p)
3) Output video in HDMI (a must, given my Eppie projector)

Any such beast in 2013??

THANKS!! smile.gif

Hi Jack,
I had done a search for a player/burner just like what you're looking for when I came across your post here.

Just thought I'd ask how the hunt goes, find anything yet?

Thanks!

You can get a stand alone player for $50 these days.

An external or even an internal in an external case will cost less than $100 I think. BTW, playback here is completely dependent on the software on your computer so add in another $50

I don't know if what you are looking for exists even but I bet it is well north of $200 if it does.

Sorry, Bill,

It's as "Sammy2" says (thanks, "Sammy2"): no such beast! frown.gif

I'm just gonna have to get with the program and get a Blu-ray Disc player for home theater and a simple CD/DVD reader for my netbook (yeah, I still use mine)...see you in line at the checkout! wink.gif
