I am amassing quite a large blu-ray collection and it is becoming inconvenient to manage, so I want to rip them all to an HTPC. I am totally new to this whole HTPC thing, and the wealth of information is overwhelming to me. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but I do not have the time to wade through all of this information to try to figure out how to do this all. All of the how-to guides that suggest specific hardware pieces seem to have outdated information and often the recommended products are discontinued. Does anybody out there sell ready-made HTPCs that are preloaded with software (XBMC?) that will allow me to do this?
I basically want something that can do the following:
-Play (up to) 3d 1080p blu-ray rips
-Be user friendly so that my wife can easily turn it on using my Harmony One remote and easily browse to find the movie she wants.
-Have a large amount of external storage with the ability to increase capacity in the future.
-Have a nice-looking on-screen interface (I've liked what I have seen from people's setups with XBMC).
-Be fast to boot up and responsive (so I guess I need an SSD).
-Be easy for me to set up so that I don't have to invest hours upon hours trying to figure out how to configure it all.
What I don't need it to do:
-Have any TV tuner or any ability to act as a DVR
-Run Netflix, Hulu, or anything else
-Browse the internet
-Run any other programs
-Play DVDs or blu-rays off a disc
My plan was to use my current home PC to rip all of my movies and load them up to some sort of storage device that can be shared on my home network so that my HTPC can access them.
If anybody could recommend a certain company or product that will do something like this, I would very much appreciate it. If nothing like this exists, if someone could provide specific recommendations on specific products, I would also very much appreciate it. The cost of the thing doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer not to pay a grand for something like this. Again, I don't mean to sound pretentious that I am too important to try to figure it all out of my own. I am just quite busy between work, wife, kids, kids' activities, etc, etc, and my schedule doesn't allow me a lot of time to let me dive head first into this project.
Thanks in advance!
