Is there a simple way to play blu-ray ISO's on a windows 7 machine? Even better, is it somehow possible within XBMC?

Thanks!

You need a virtual drive first. Then just a player/software.

Not hard at all.

Try mounting clone drive:

http://static.slysoft.com/SetupVirtualCloneDrive.exe

That should allow you to play ISO

I do not know about XBMC which I think can use MPC-HC. MPC-HC can play a blu-ray iso.

both mediabrowser and XBMC can use an external player like MPC-HC. (or VLC, )

But proper way to play ISO is to mount a virtual drive.

Correct, you do need to mount the iso first. Slysoft virtual clone drive will mount the iso on the drive letter you specify and then you need to navigate to that drive and select the iso.

Is that a recent development? Last I used MPC-HC it couldn't even play DVD ISOs (without mounting them first). VLC can mount ISOs directly.

XBMC 11 and 12 play bluray iso. PowerDVD and TMT will play bluray iso mounted with virtual clone drive.

I believe the new mediabrowser 3 will have this as a core feature.

It is my understanding that it is planned for media browser 3 will include vlc as a default player. But currently you need MPC-HC to use MadVR and Jinc3 +AR which will blow you away if you have a GPU capable of jinc 3 +AR upscaling. But I do understand the need to include a player which will work for most people.

When you say Jin3+AR what exactly do you mean ?

Are you talking about the setting in MadVR ?

If so... what is the "AR" ???

anti-ringing

The improvement will be most obvious on a DVD you are familiar with, but it helps Blu-ray as well

XBMC Frod 12 can play Blue Ray ISO files. The menu screen is a bit different. I am watching 2012 blue ray ISO as I type this. I am a big fan of XBMC and feel it compliments my HTPC build. If you are reading the ISO from a network drive make sure you have a decent transfer rate or you may get buffering issues. The XBMC forum can answer any question you could throw at it.......enjoy.

MeediOS can also play ISO files (via the ISO Player plugin) and has a native madVR video player.

ISO Player Plugin:

madVR Player Plugin:

If you are using Virtual Clone Drive to play ISO files over a network I would recommend trying version 5.4.4.0 if you have issues with the current version of 5.4.5.0. Further discussion here:
