So I am gonna add an internal Blu Ray to my new HTPC. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a decent looking one for around 50$ or less.
I am planning on using it to rip discs, of course. Is there any features I need to look out for? I read somewhere something about rip locking. Are there drives out there that will prevent me from ripping? Is there one brand I should look out for?
Again, looking to keep it on a budget. What are your thoughts?
Yeah, I am not sure what all that means, but I am actually gonna be putting the drive on my regular PC, and transferring the files to my HTPC for storage. The PC that the drive will be going on is using Windows 8, if that helps.
A rip-locked drive will only read up to about 2X to (that means around an hour or so for a 2 hour movie). The non-rip-locked drive I linked gets up to nearly 8X which means a 2 hour movie rips in about 20 to 30 minutes. Got a lot of disks to rip? Then it makes a difference.
