Hey guys,

I have recently build my first htpc. Began the process of ripping movies to my hard drive. I use wmc and media browser. I used Assassin's guide and it definitely helped me get started.
I have LAV filters installed. Haali is also installed. I used makemkv to rip my movies.

The issue I am having is WMC wont send 5.1 or 7.1 audio to my receiver. I only get stereo. However, if I play a movie using windows media player I get full 5.1 or 7.1.

What gives? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Jason

Start by removing LAV or Haali. Don't need both.

I think when I downloaded auto rip n compress it installed that and fddshow. Will removing haali affect playabilty of currentlybripped movies? I will keep the LAV, per your guide.

No, it should not. Having too many codec packs installed at the same time is an easy way to mess up your playback.

I did notice in my tv recordings that WMC played those back in 5.1. It is odd that my ripped movies in media player play fine. However in WMC, it only outputs stereo.

Removed ffdshow and Haali. I am still able to play movies using windows media player and get appropriate surround sound. However, now none of my movies can play in WMC.

Uninstall LAV and re-install it.

What are you sending the audio to and are you trying to bitstream HD audio with the rips?

Should definitely support what you are doing. Try to change the Windows speaker setting (the one outside of WMC setup in Control Panel -> Sound) from 2 channel to 5.1/7.1 to see if that makes a difference as well.
