How is the Pentium G860 cpu for an htpc? I'm really using it for recording/playback ota channels with a hdhomerun dual. I would also like to stream shows/movies online if possible,

I can get it for $60 which seems like a good deal.

It's fine. I have a G620 and was doing all the above as well as playing BR's fine on the IGP (now have a discreet card). It was an Intel HD Graphics IGP; same as that chip.

IVB is better in both CPU and GPU. For your purposes perhaps Celeron G1610 (IVB), ~$45, is enough.

If you look at the specs, a G860 is nearly a i3-2100 with some features disabled in the GPU (QuickSync, 3D) and a couple in the CPU that aren't really interesting for HTPC anyway.

For what you are doing even one of the mobile Celeron 847 boards would suffice so either G860 or G1610 is more than enough.

Yeah, I'm thinking the celeron 847 boards are a cool idea for HTPC. I'm hoping the concept survives for Haswell equivalents.

If you go this route make sure you get the one with the big heasink.

$80 with free shipping and low energy costs. You wont beat it on a cost basis.
